I don't really know where to put this, so I figured I'd put it in 40k General.. In essence, it's my birthday on Saturday, I have £150 and *no* idea what to get.. I currently collect Blood Angels and Imperial Guard, and I have a substantial amount of each (about >3000pts put together) and no idea what to get next.. I have:
BA

DV stuff, 20 Tac Marines, Termy Libby, 2 JP Captains, 1 Captain, 2 Predators, 2 Rhinos, 1 Land Raider, 5 Assault marines, 10 Devvys, 5 Termys with CML

IG stuff, 2 Vendettas, 2 CSs, 40 Guardsmen, 1 LR Eradicator, 1 Chimera

I am open to FW stuff too ^_^

And I don't mind the prospect of collecting a new army due to Allies rules :3

Mech up your Guard? £150 will get you more chimeras so you can do mechanised infantry, not just foot...

Keep your Vendettas from getting lonely, buy a Vulture gunship with twin-linked punisher cannons.

I'll refrain from posting rules, but iirc they use the same profile as the punisher cannon on the Punisher Leman. That is to say, A LOT of shots

And, I'm looking to get something big, cool or impressive, not just some more Guardsmen and Chimeras, I can get one of those every couple of weeks x)

Maybe look at a few forgeworld kits?

I'm sure your Guard would love something like a Macharius.

I was just looking over all that sort of jazz, and I thought. Hmm. Where are the rules for these again? SHIZZ, IN THE BLOODY IA BOOKS, NOOOOOOOO

I mean, as long as I can find the rules on the interwebs, or if they're just like.. Conversion kits or stuff that's in Apoc or conversion kits, then that's okay, but I can't really get anything that I don't know the points cost of, because I have a game on Saturday down at the FLGS with my friends, and I need to make it up to 3000pts (of usable stuff) :/

Then there is only one option: save a bit more money and get a Marauder Destroyer. Biggest, most impressive thing an IG player can take.

Never mind. "Big and impressive" and "have to have it in time for a game in a week" do not go together. Anything big enough to be worth spending that much money on will take you weeks of building and painting.

Trust me - Apoc models are a waste of time. My stompa has been used once and Apoc games (IMO) are not regular. Spend the money on toys, but this is a waste of money mate

Yeah I would definatly use it to expand your collection or to fund a major conversion project.

Maybe some FW verteran upgrades and a Valk. Or an extra Basilisk or something.

I don't know. I agree with above. Apocalypse games are few and far between.

Unless your running a few titans and a dozens of superheavy tanks apocalpse is kinda weak.

If you have that much Guard already you can easily field one side of an Apoc game by yourself. Just arrange to face two or three opponents banded together, if no-one else can match the points.

That much Guard?? xD I have about 1500pts, 1900pts with my new addition.. We're playing a 3,000pt game :3 So I'm fielding mostly Blood Angels with IG allies ^_^

Ah! Understood, thought you meant about 3000 of both...! In which case I'd be more tempted to get stuff in the main Codexes you've not got yet. Couple of Stormravens perhaps? Also strikes me as a lot of basic units in the Tactical Marines and Guardsmen. Maybe get some more specialist units like Death Company or IG Veterans.

I usually just proxy Guardsmen as Veterans (what's the difference?? xD) and, as for Death Company, they might be good, but they aren't scoring... And besides, I'l get enough money to pick up a Blood Angels/Space Marine/IG battleforce with whatever money I have leftover+other birthday money :3 AND I HATE FLYERS, the're too fiddly.. I managed to glue together another Vendetta today, and I then realised why it had sat for 4 months in my 'to do' pile.. NGHH. WINGS. WHY YOU NOT STRAIGHTEN?? NGHHH. HATCH! WHY YOU NOT CLOSE??? ENGINES!!!!! WHY YOU NOT STAY GLUED TOGETHER?!?! Etc.. xD

Well. I'm late to this discussion. But I was going to recommend 3x Hydras from Forge World.

If you still have the cash, then I would suggest the following to augment your Guard;

Forge World:
Exorcist (it's not cheaper than the GW one any more, but it does look better) for £40
Repressor for £33

Games Workshop:
Saint Celestine for £12
Sister Superior for £7.70
3x Battle Sisters for £33.25
Battle Sister with Heavy Bolter for £8.70
2x Battle Sister with Meltagun for £12.30
Battle Sister with Flamer for £6.15

This will let you build an allied detachment of Sisters of Battle for £152.10 consisting of;

HQ:
Celestine

Troops:
Battle Sister squad with Repressor and several options of equipment (A heavy and a special, or two specials, with a plasma pistol and CCW or a bolter on the squad leader))

Heavy Support:
Exorcist

In addition, with just the purchase of a second Sister Superior, you can add;

Fast Attack:
Dominion squad with two special weapons.

Alternately, with these models, you can use the Sister Superior with Plasma Pistol as a Canoness, and use a sister with a bolter as the Sister Superior for the Battle Sister squad and unlock some fun tricks with guard squads that I'll detail below.

Why should you get Sisters? Several reasons;

Firstly: They synergise well with Guard, being Battle Brothers. Celestine is an absolute beat stick who just won't die, the Battle Sister squad can provide a little extra toughness or hitting power, and the Exorcist is one of the best tanks in the game, with a BS4 S8 AP1 Heavy d6 rocket launcher on the back. Dominions can Outflank to put their meltaguns just where you want them.

Secondly: The inclusion of a Canoness opens up a world of fun, as her Passion faith ability can affect guard units, granting them Preferred Enemy and a +1 bonus to their Initiative score. She's also a Ld10, WS/BS5 model with some nice options including melta pistols and eviscerators.

Thirdly: It'll tell Games Workshop that people still love Sisters. :p
