I am an avid Nids collector and am entering Young Bloods Throne of Skulls this year. I am having some trouble shaving down the Points to 1500 AND have Synapse range all over the board (that is why, with the Psychic Monstrosity special rule, The Swarmlord was a Must-Have). Here is my List, please note I haven't got most of them and I would like suggestions:

Spoiler:
HQ: Swarmlord, Tyrant Guard Brood (2)

Troops: Hormagaunt Brood (12), Warrior Brood (3) |Equipment: 1 BS, 1 DS, 1 Devourer, 3 ST, 2 AG, 1 Flesh Hooks, 1 Extended Carapace, 1 IA|, Termagant Brood (12), GS Brood (8) |Equipment: 8 Feeder Tendrils|

Elites: Deathleaper, Doom of Malan'Tai, Zoanthrope Brood (2)

Heavy Support: Tyrannofex |Equipment: Adrenal Gland, Cluster Spines, Regeneration, Shreddershard Beetles, Rupture Cannon|, Trygon Prime |Equipment: Regeneration, Adrenal Gland|, Biovore Brood (2)

Fast Attack (I need help with having Synapse Creatures over here): Gargoyle Brood (10), Ravener Brood (3) |Equipment: 3 Rending Claws, 3 Thorax-Mounted Deathspitters|, ????????????? (This slot is where I want a Synapse Creature but also want the points to be down, It is currently filled by this: ) Spore Mine Cluster (6; 2 Frag, 2 Poison, 2 Bio-Acid)

The Names and Point Cost:

Spoiler:
HQ: Ravening Leader (280), Tyrant's Bodyguard (120)

Elites: Slendernid (140), Eldar's Bane (90), The Brethren (120)

Heavy Support: Gargantufex (195), SerpenPrime (125), Apocalypse Cannons (90)

Fast Attack: The Black Cloud (60), Death From Below (60), Orbiting Cluster (60)

Please leave suggestions!
Sincerely,
Tyra Nidz.

I'm a avid necron player and just getting into nids (so fresh that I'm borrowing a friends army to play nids for now lol).

I can't guide you to exactly what you need but I can suggest away of how to determine what your weaknesses are and what you need to do and/or get to make your army more effective.

When I create a list I sit down with a piece of A4 paper (a few pieces will do, just in case you make some errors), sit down and draw out a top down view on your army. You will get a feel for what kind of foot print you'll have on the board and you can draw on your synapse range aswell.

It doesnt have to be detailed, I just draw blocks and write the names of the unit and what characters maybe attached. Give it ago that way and see what you have.

Plus how do you plan on playing your army, melee? shooting? outflanking? Once you've decided this you'll know what to do next.

A couple of comments. Your points are way off. I've counted a 1764 pts list not to mention the massive error in the trygon primes total pts. Should be 240pts for prime.

At 1500pts you have 400 of them invested in a HQ. Albeit an amazing HQ but too many points. Drop one of the guards to take advantage of the Iron Arm you could roll. And give the guard LW. This will ensure that some models are forced to attack at I1 if you have to move the swarmlord into cover to strike as he has no grenades. Use gargoyles to screen the line and take the fire so swarmy can do his thing.

Drop the Tfex. Maybe in a 2000pts fun list. Your troops are fairly week and all 4 of them could maybe withstand a single round of shooting each.

Deathleaper, again, too many points to invest at this level for a model that rarely makes his points back.

Stealers won't work in the pod I feel as they will drop. Have to withstand a round of shooting and then take an over watch and likely be too thin to accomplish much. Same applies to hormagants. They also each need TS. Try Yrmgarl stealers instead.

Not really a fan of your fast attack. All units are too small to do anything.

Do you have access to hive Guard?

That's just off the top of my head. First thing to do would be to create a legal 1500pts list.

Without changing your list too much try something list this
Swarmlord, Guard w LW 345pts
DoM in Pod 130
2 zoans 120pts
7 Ymgarl 161pts
Tervigon AG, TS, 3 Powers 210pts
20 termagants
20 gargoyles 120pts
Trygon TS 210pts
2 Biovores 90pts

I'd like to add more troops but would need to drop something big like trygon

Thoughts?

I agree with what Skycapt said.

I'd split the termagaunts into 2 groups of 10 to. And take hiceguard instead of the Ymgarl if you have themm. But thats more a personal prefference both work well.

Your list also seems to not have a single unit upgrade which strikes me as wierd.

I didn't even notice - but yeah you're over 100 points light on the Trygon Prime, and over 50 points light on the Tyrannofex.

You have genestealer right? They can be used as Ymgarl Stealers.

Unit upgrade. It's when you add upgrades to your units. For example giving a unit Toxin sacs. Unit 10 Genestealers - Upgrade: Toxin Sacs

You can't really play nids with only 12 termagants. Play your hormagants as termagants in the meantime.

You are just starting out so proxy some of your models. Warriors make great hive guard proxy. I trust you are playing with friends and not in tournaments so it shouldn't be an issue.

Hope that helps.

Firstly good luck . Your list is a nice list and will be fun to run but its a bit bity if that makes sense you need to decide what you want to go with and not a bit of every thing . At TOS's you can never cover for every army your best bet is to go for a list that will work well vs marines and gives you a good chance vs other army's the biggest thing your list is going to struggle with is flyers. You need to take a couple of flying hive tyrants ( or at least 1) check out this Tyranid YouTube channel for advice and tips on all things Tyranid . But most of all enjoy it.http://youtu.be/iq9wnDK1odk

I am not going to next year, my BFF who works at GW has refunded my ticket, so I have time for getting stuff...
I'm just a bit puzzled as to WHAT TROOPS SHOULD I HAVE?
I mean, my idea is just to have fun, and (@Aceface) the Flyrant thet I would like is 15 points. Really, my Idea with the DoM and the spore is I just really like the idea of something coming out of an unidentified object and PSYCHICALLY SHREDDING things left, right and centre, for example.
I'd probably drop the TFex and replace it with a Mawloc, make the TFex a Tervigon and get 2 more groups of 12 Termys (one group to bolster the first and another to have as spawning) and maybe some ripper swarms.
Thats just the thing, but I have decided my 1499-point list.

Rippers, flying ripppers, pyrovores are the worst units in the codex. Don't go there.

Warriors, shrikes, raveners should not be run in units of 3, too small, too brittle.

Tervigon is the best troop in the codex, if not the whole game, do go there.

If you're playing 1,500 pts then mass flyers will be less of an issue, but still try the flyrant out just in case and see how you get on.

I decided to replace the Sky-Slashers with Shrikes and cut out 4 Termys (which are, in my case, Termagants, not Terminators)

I like your final list but I'd personally change a few bits, drop the pyrovore, I would axe the shrikes and have 3 more warriors as they have better saves and are markedly more survivable, and are scoring.

This come to 1500pt exact and its a solid list from what I have learned in the short time that I have play nids.

Hive tyrant - Wings, 2x TL devourer w/ brainleech worms, 2 powers (roll on biomancy)

DoM - Pod
Hive Guard x2
Hive Guard x2

Tervigon - 3 powers (biomancy)
Termagaunts x12
Termagaunts x12

Gargoyles x15 - Ag, TS

Trygon Prime
Trygon Prime

You could drop a few Gargoyles to get some AD and TS on the Tervigon. Anything he has upgrade wise is transferred to the Gaunts he spawns. You could also drop the Gargoyles all together and get another Tervigon for some more gaunt spawning action which is always good. Plus more powers. Possibly swap a Trygon Prime for a Mawloc to deal with those IG parking lots. There are options here but this is a pretty sound list. The primes give you some forward synapse as well as the flyrant. It way more shooty but I have found that shooty nids are a hot route to take. Besides.. the Trygons are still CC monsters. The Flyrant also gives you something to deal with flyers. You know there are going to be people who spam them and to not have anything to deal with them is going to be a bad day. Trygons 12 shots could also assist with that. Doom has become a staple in all my lists because he is some backfield disruption. Just some thoughts for you.
