Subject: Converting Lizardmen into a 40k Army
|
 |
Crazed Zealot
|
For a long time I've wanted to do this, I began wargamming in 96 when I played as Dark Elves in Warhammer Fantasy. I remember having loads of games with a friend who had lizardmen and I always wanted his army.
Anyway, since then times changed, in 2003 I moved to 40k to start playing Space Wolves and then the beginning of this year to Grey Knights which i've now finished my 1000 point army I use to play with my friends who use a 1000 point cap.
Right, now that's the fluff out of the way. I really want to make a Lizardmen full army conversion to use as a 40k army, but I've got too many ideas and I can't seem to choose just 1.
Has anyone got any good ideas of what bitz i could use to convert them and what codex I could use to apply them?
Cheers,
New to the forum btw, so hello, I'm Quincy.

I'm thinking of a Lizardmen / Chaos (Plagued Ones) cross over, like Lord Kroak with the legs of a Defiler (kind of like how Soul Grinder is), and Terminators with Kroxigor heads.
That kind of thing?

Demons come to mind. - I recall Malal (the so called fifth god of chaos) being described as having lizard-like minions using crude melee weapons. - They could be used as blood letters. They certainly look the part, even more so than the silly current models. - Plague bearers could also work; just make them extra slimey reptiles

The Slaan, are quite literally, lizardmen in space, who were in the earliest editions of 40k, but never got their own true codex, so there is precident for it in the fluff. All you would need to do, is find an army that fit's them, and use their rules in a counts-as fashion.
I have no idea how lizardmen play though, so i'd have no idea which army to recommend.

I'm using lizard men bits at the moment to do some conversion work on my Salamanders to take the whole Reptilian thing another step further, using Saurous (think thats how its spelt) heads for my sgts and putting scales coming through the armour and potentially using some tales too if i can work it

I'd imagine it'd look like some of the following:
Personally, I'd go for the tails and heads sticking out of the armor, rather than severing the Saurus bodies at the waist. I can't imagine why they'd leave their legs unprotected, and they're a lot skinnier than the power armor - which is appropriate given how thick it is, but it makes the models visually top-heavy, so it looks weird (but they don't have trouble staying upright).

Ah! lovely!
I'm not too keen on how the legs look on the armor so what I think I will do is replace the Chaos boots with the lizardmen's feet, and just cut off the tail from the lizard men and attach it to the chaos legs, how does that sound?
I think the real challenge here would be creating the heroes and heavy support...

That's exactly right. ^^
Looks a lot better, and I'm pretty sure I mentioned doing just that in my first post on the subject... Yup, I did. ^^
The heads come as separate pieces, so you don't have to cut them off of anything. But you do have to trim down the crest to get it to fit, and for Terminators, you have to cut away even more to get it to fit.
And for Scouts and other more normal humanoids, I use Skink parts. The size seems a lot better with the less bulky body (Space Marine models have HUGE heads compared to other humanoids).
Oh, you'll need a piece of filler, like a tiny blob of Green Stuff or even just a small piece of plastic, to make a neck between the head and torso. Otherwise the head sits too low.

yeah, I like your idea hehe
what do you think about kroxigor/terminator combo and using this order:
Kroxigor head
Terminator chest
Kroxigor abdomen
terminator legs (w/ Kroxigor tail)
kroxigor feet
Can you imagine that at all? I think the kroxigor's abdomen would extend the height of the terminator to make it look a little bit more like the old kroxigor shape.

Hmmm...
Terminator parts might be a little small. They're designed for human-sized models. I actually made a Terminator with Saurus parts, it's the image with the white head and tail - they were cannibalized from a primed Saurus Warrior.
I think you'd have to go with a Grey Knight Terminator torso at the least, and trim away the Psychic Hood thing. because of the way the head sits on it. It sits on top, not inside. I don't think there'd be enough space in a normal Terminator torso to fit the Kroxigor head - there's not even enough for a Saurus head. Other than the issue with the head, it sounds like a good idea. ^^

The mutilator body would work better, but you'd have to get rid of the face on the Mutilator or something. Not undoable, but it would work better than a Terminator body, since it looks a lot bulkier. ^^
As for the Dreadnought, I don't see a Chaos one on GW's site, but it might work size-wise, but it would look pretty odd with the head and tail and feet coming out of completely mechanical areas.

Apparently dreadnoughts no longer exist in the chaos army which is a shame, I think my best bet is to rip apart a mutilator really, the tail problem with the dreadnought would be a bit strange anyway so, point well made haha

You're thinking of the Slann, and they were frogmen, not lizardmen. In 40K, the Slann were a race in their own right. In Fantasy, they were the leader caste of the Lizardmen.
For the original question, I had actually been considering something similar not so long ago, as I have a mostly unpainted 6th ed Lizardmen army and am unlikely to ever get back into WHFB. Once you factor in the size difference on things like skinks and krox, Orks seem like the obvious option for a stand in, although I had been considering Tau, using the lizards as firewarriors, skinks as drones, and Krox as battlesuits.
