Hello background gurus, I originally built my World Eaters force back in the days when Chapter Approved was coming out with lists for the original chapters/legions. So... 2001? 2002?

Now they need to be modernized, so I'm coming to you guys for help figuring out what fluff-correct units (zerkers clearly), vehicles, war gear, etc... I should consider. I'm not going for tourney min-maxing. My original build out was a dread, a land raider and a bunch of frothing mad chain axe delivery devices.

But I don't really know to what degree the fiends, brutes, flyers and other much and vehicles, not to mention basic war gear or unit choices, fit in with the World Eaters. Any suggestions on any aspect of fluff-fit would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much!
JW

Any unit except psykers and cult troops are fluffy.

Well Heresy era they had a strong focus towards infantry, especially assault infantry (Or Chain-axe delivery service I like that, I'm going to steal it ) But they were also noted (By no-less than Ferrus Manus) that they were pretty good at armoured warfare (i.e. tanks like Predators.) I think now, with pretty much all World Eaters now being Chain-axe delivery people ( ) the tank arm would be a bit less favoured, but Land raiders and rhinos still fit fine; as they allow faster delivery , I could see the occasional other vehicle fit, Defilers maybe, as they can still hit things up close (I think, I don't know the Chaos rules really) Dreads fit fine still, I'm not sure on any of the newfangled stuff though.

But really, as long as it's not a psyker; and if it can hit stuff in close quarters, it'll probably fit just fine...

Haha, steal away.

Well it sounds like I could take just about anything as long as it's in the service of smashing face, or getting chain axe to face more effectively. Trying to maintain a very infantry based power armor + CC army is getting rough these days. But, here's what I'm thinking.
- Oblits: thought about it, but too shooty
- Mutilators: interesting, but too demony, the Berzerkers would probably kill them
- Bikes: slap a Berzerker on a Bike? What's not to love?
- Raptors: slap a jump pack on a Berzerker? What's not to love?
- Warp Talons: possibly too demony, also no chain axe, but maybe.
- Forgefiend & Maulerfiend: The Mauler is probably a better fit, but the forgefiend would work on the principle that it does come with 2 str6 attacks...and sometimes you need to shoot things that will impede Chain Axe Delivery (Papa Khorne's - Face Smash in 30 Minutes or Less or Your Next Death is Free (TM))
- Dreads: kind of half forge half mauler, so it works still.
- Helldrakes: I can't get around the need for these. Plus I like the model. Also this from the Codex: "Others prefer to plunge through the clouds into the crucible of battle, screaming in savage joy as they crash headlong into the fight." Sounds right to me.
- Defilers: For a World Eater's force, this might be the right combination of shooty and CC.
- Rhinos: yes... shoot the rhino... please! Because when it pops open bad news comes out.
- Predators: eh... they used to be famed for armored warfare, so I could see some warbands maintaining that if their Preds still function, I might get one, just because...
- Vindicators: I thought at first that these were a definite NO. But then I thought about bunkers and fortresses... You still need to make a hole through which Papa Khorne's can deliver.
- Land Raiders: Chosen or Terms coming out of this? Sure thing, plus I already have one!
- Hellbrute: pretty demony, the model from DV needs a LOT of work, but melta + Power fist sounds pretty good to me.

If you are talking pre-Heresy, then it would be an assault-heavy army, wouldn't it? Either Blood Angels or Black Templars would fit that bill.

I do agree with SoloFalcon that the Blood Angels codex fits Heresy era World Eaters perfectly (That's the codex I use anyway, seriously, read the rules for Gabriel Seth and tell me he isn't a World Eater in disguise )

Its a cool idea, something that I'm wanting to do with my WE army, more fluff than winning since I dont have anyone around to game with... I think I'm focusing on trying to keep everything more cc orientated with cool little conversions.
This means axes of every shape and variety on my zerkers and lords with the only real long distance weaponry being as dakka as possible such as heavy bolters or autocannons or hand held pistols.
Also, got to love the idea of a bike being ridden by a berzerker. It suddenly becomes much less of a vehicle and more of a deadly fast moving weapon in the hands of a maniac.

They have varying levels of insanity, battle lust and psychosis. So whilst some are lobotomised beserkers others retain their intellect and strategic aptitude. So essentially anything other than psychers is fluffy.
