Cut the CSM squad and bring a heldrake and more cultists.

I would cut the hellbrute as well and buy a predator.

How about:
Chaos Lord, mark of nurgle, chainaxe and blight grenades
Chaos space marine squad (10) 1 meltagun, 1 autocannon, mark of nurgle, Rhino, combi bolter havoc launcher
Chaos space marine squad (9) 2 meltaguns, mark of nurgle, close combat weapons, Rhino, havoc launcher
Forgefiend 175

Failing that I'll try fit in a Heldrake I'd rather stay away from dropping all the CSM's though!

The Heldrake is the best unit in the codex. Why did you take out the plague marines? They're the best troop in the codex... Run a nurgle lord, plague marines in a rhino, a heldrake and a bunch of cultists and you won't lose and you'll decimate anyone in your way.

I was thinking about a bike but I don't fancy running a bike squad to go with him :/ that and I've already got my Chosen conversion all planned out

Why exactly are plague marines the best troop? I'm moving on to 1000pts as 750 is kinda awkward.
I'll rewrite this if you think it's not as good as 2 plague marines in rhinos with cultists and a heldrake.

Chaos Lord, mark of nurgle and blight grenades
Chaos space marine squad (10) 1 meltagun, 1 autocannon, mark of nurgle, Rhino
Chaos space marine squad (10) 1 meltagun, 1 autocannon, mark of nurgle, combi bolter Rhino
Chaos space marine squad (9) 1 meltagun, mark of nurgle, close combat weapons, gift of mutation, Rhino
Cultist squad (10) with autoguns, heavy stubber
Heldrake

Plagues are the best choice because, they're T5, FnP, reroll wounds, fearless and a beast in close combat. For almost the same amount of points as your upgraded regular csms you get all of the above. The list is light years better than before. But get those plagues in there. I wasn't a believer until I fielded them.

On a side note. Get at least 20 cultists in a squad and don't upgrade them. Keep them bare bones as their 4 point per model cost is what makes them so great.

There is nothing Nurgley about a heldrake, so i wouldn't take one because i kinda like my lists to feel at least a bit fluffy. What everyone else says about plagues is correct, they are bad ass, especially when you have them as troops with you Nurgle lord.

The helbrute is also rather pointless I'm afraid, your better off with a predator, more dakka for ya points. Also I would try to avoid running cultists at less than 20 models strong.

Fluff aside, the Heldrake I'd the best model in the codex

Why is the Heldrake so great though? What would make it any better than a Forgefiend (which can provide anti-flyer) too?

I've put this together which is 951 points... I can't help but imagine I'd get served due to the army being so small other than the cultists who I swear are near useless? What about cutting out 10 cultists and 10 plague marines and running 2 CSM squads with MoN instead? What about Havocs? I'd be severely lacking in range wouldn't I?

Chaos Lord, mark of nurgle and power weapon
Plague marines, 4 additional marines, 2 meltaguns, Rhino
Plague marines, 5 additional marines, 2 meltaguns, Rhino
20 Cultists with autoguns
Heldrake

Also, how about chucking in a little Deamons detachment instead of cultists for objective sitting, since Plaguebearers are actually useful and not very expensive?

The Heldrake offers a s6 ap3 flamer that ignores cover. It's a flier with armor 12 that well be difficult to kill. Forge fiend will just die to las cannons and melta. And us more expensive. The forge fiend is one of the worst heavy support slots. Another nice thing about the heldrake aside from it's ability to single handedly win games is it takes up a fast slot not a heavy slot

Okay so the Heldrake is a must have then!
What about long range support though? Won't my plague marines just get focus fired the crap out of before they can do anything?

Is that list I just posted alright?

It's really difficult to kill plague marines. Chaos marines with the mark of nurgle aren't even close to being a plague marine. Nurgle csm don't have poison weapons, two base attacks, feel no pain. I like the list you posted above. Keep them in rhinos on objectives and jump them out when it's time for them to score. Take the auto guns off the cultists. Keep them bare bones.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Put the chaos lord with the cultists to give them fearless and run them up the field, our camp them on an objective in the back. With them being fearless, your opponent will have to kill every Last cultist. 1 cultist left on a scoring objective scores just the same as 20 cultists

So the cultists are JUST for backfield scoring?

How should I equip the lord then? Barebones with MoN and blight grenades and meltabomb sound alright?

I'm still totally missing long range though?

But do give the Cultists Flamers. Flamers are dirt cheap, have good punch, and can be useful in overwatch situations.

What about a sorceror instead if he's babysitting the cultists? He wouldn't have fearless though :/

Failing that, should I chuck in some better CC weaponry for the plague marines?
Either that or running 1 plague marine squad, 1 MoN chaos marine squad with a powerfist, 1 havoc squad and then the cultists and heldrake?

If you can run this:

2x 8 plague marines in rhinos
20 cultists with mon lord
Havocs
Heldrake

At about 1000 points this is a sick list

Plague marines, 2 additional marines, 2 meltaguns, Rhino
Havoc squad, 3 additional marines, 4 autocannons
20 Cultists, 2 flamers
Heldrake

35 points left over. I chose 7 man squads since it's fluffy and that's the number that come in the boxes

How about that?

Looks very good. You don't need 3 extra hsvocs because they can't take heavy weapons, you're better of using those points + the 35 extra on a auto cannon predator with two las cannons. Squeeze that in there and you have a damn good list at 1k points

Swapping out the Havocs for a Predator with Lascannon sponsons leaves 73 points remaining, where should that go? 3 extra Plague Marines?

Do up your hq, burning brand, black mace, at very least terminator armor

try maybe
termiator armor
MoN
blight grenades
burning brand

you can use the deep strike to keep up with marines in rhinos

or
Bike
Mon
blight grenades
Black mace

hes toughness 6 and can use that mace to stop tarpits dead, which is a risk when using small plague marine squads

Can never go wrong with more plague marines.

Within the last couple days your list went from zero to hero! You're gonna own with that 1k list.

It'll probably take me well up to a year to buy, put together and paint up the whole list so it's a long term project and before I do splash out cash I'd rather ensure it's all worth it, which means exploring different ideas

Blackskull I would use bikes but then I wouldn't be able to cover long range as I'd have to drop the predator and I would have to cut out troops which means I'd lack scoring bodies. I can't see a way it'd be feasible D:

The way they are written in the codex. No upgrades.

if the lord escorts the cultists go terminator armor, blight grenades and maybe sigil of corruption

then as your going up the board position the lord so he takes all the hits and if he fails a save throw the wound onto a cultist behind him, this will preserve your cultists so as many of them can get up the board as posilble, the lord is the hardest to wound as he has the best save
