Self explanatory, I'm running a big game next week and wanted dakka users views.

I don't generally play abve 1.5k these days so I'd appreciate views from players who are used to slugging it out at higher PVs.

2.5k is a big game for your standard sized table. 4k per person is a huge game that probably wouldnt fit on your standard table. Id guess 8x4 but not sure. Might want to place the models and see how much room there is left.

good point zteknon - a horde 4k has a very different footprint to a fully mechanised one!

we've done 2k per person team games (so 4k per side total of 8k points) on a standard 6x4. ended up having to put 2/3 of our armies in reserve to fit stuff. ended up being a 6 hour game. about an hour per full turn. wasnt as fun. more fun to play 2k or under most times. 1v1.

We usually play 2k on a 4x6 table...so for 4k I would go to a 4x10 or 4x12 table. Especially if using any horde forces.

4x8 should be fine but maybe 4x10 if either of the armies are particularly large.

As long as there are no Apoc units, I'd say go with 4x8 or 4x10. If you are playing Apoc level units, switch to 10x6 for added depth to deployment zones.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm liking the idea of extra depth and I may go for a comprimise of 5x8 or so - depending on arranging couches, books, coffee tables to support the random styrene sheets that are doubling as table extensions...

I'd say 8x6. The depth can really matter in apocalypse style games, especially with larger caliber weapons. It's a pretty mean table, to deal with though, so that's always a consideration.

As a completely un-biased Tyanid player, I'd say 3x3 sounds fair

This. One thing you'll find you may well struggle for is deployment space, if you're too cramped up it becomes a case of LargeBlastalypseHammer 40,000-casualties-on-turn-one.
8x6, definitely - if you have to go with thinner, use some kind of mandatory reserves so not everything is deployed straight off.

I've played a 4k game on a 6x4, very fun. The in your face aspect is great, no matter how much longe range each side has, some assault aspect is crashing the lines(not IG or Tau of course lol).
We also play sub 1500 on 4x4 boards. Also very much enjoyable.

I need to return some video tapes.

Cool - The 6 ft depth isn't doable with my resources - but 5ft is. I knew those random styrene sheets would come in handy!

Make an "H" with two 6x4s on the sides and a 4x4 in the center.
