Hi guys,
I don't know if this has come up, it probably has but I just wanted a bit of clarification.
I was watching a battle rep the other night and saw supposedly a bunch of Kroot Snipers take out a raven wing. Irrespective of the fact it is a flyer etc is this possible?
So I read that on the roll to penetrate if you roll a 6 with snipers that you get to roll another D3 to pen.
So the logic is roll a 6 to pen, add 3 for the weapon strength gives you 9. Then you get another D3. So can glance/pen AV10,11 and glance AV12.
Any I right with this?

"Against Vehicles, Sniper weapons count as Strength 3."
So adding in Rending, yes, you can get up to 12.

I know I have used this ability to great effect with Eldar snipers since on a to hit roll of 6 (or 5-6 for Pathfinders) the weapon counts as AP1....great for those Pens on AV10 and 11. Hehe

The times I take drones on my riptides, The riptide stayed out front and took the hits, not the drones. It was just like if I didn't have the drones, only my riptide had a bunch of extra firepower. When the riptide was brought down, they still had to deal with the drones.

That's nice but you can get 4 other drones elsewhere for the same points (and even have some left over), and the riptide gets to use the nova engine boost to it's full effect.

The question is Mobility over Survivability.
The Solo Riptide is more maneuverable; the Drone accompanied Riptide is more Survivable.
A Solo Riptide goes Overload for Bounce Or Attack.
A droned Riptide goes overload for Shield or Attack.
The Common is attack, so can be removed.
Am I going to Bounce my riptide or Fire stronger shots in a turn where I am not adding to the Invul Save(when the big gun is not in play)?

You make it sound like I was saying a riptide with drones was the best thing ever. To be clear though, I was not saying that. Some people use less than optimum lists because they like what they do use for what ever reason. It can be helpful to those people to get ideas on how to overcome some of the flaws in the unit they like. That is all I was trying to do with my post.

You unlock them with Illic, however they lost their special rending abilities.

Except that rangers now cost half what a pathfinder cost ... I've just double the number of snipers in my army without any penalty (and lets be honest more shots means I'm even more likely to kill it)

No, there's a huge penalty. You can no longer double dip for AP. You don't get AP1 on To Hit of 6 any more. That means you go from a 25% (1/6 + (3/6)*(1/6)) chance of any shot negating Armour Saves to an 11% ((4/6)*(1/6)) chance. It also loses synergy with Snap Shots. Before, all Snap Shot hits were AP1.

While snap shots of AP1 are funny ....
old codex Pathfinder 4/36 shots give an armour save 8/36 don't give a save save (AP1or2) Ok thats the base line
ranger 8/36 give an armour save 4/36 don't give an armour save ... wow its a reversal but wait aren't these guys half the cost? so what does 2 do?
well this gets more complicated lets ignore the option of getting 2 rending shots (its 16/1296 )
2 rangers at least get 1 wound or better 512/1296 but give a save
272/1296 that at least one shot is rending.
So lets turn these into % ... Old pathfinder 22.2% 2 new ranger 20.9% of ignoring a save ... so 1.23% difference on ignoring saves a reduction of course it does not take into account the shots that leave a save (which should even that out even more ... depending on the save). Personally i don't see a massive problem
