Tough Tyrant Guard
|
Here we go craftworlders. Time for us to come together and start figuring out the fun, crazy and really powerful combinations hiding in our new codex.
Let it loose and let's here what you think.
This is not a place to complain about changes and less than optimal units, this is a place to figure out the way to use them anyway.
I think one of the big HQ units that will be in nearly every army from here on out is the spirit seer. Not only a psyker that can force multiply your forces, but moves wraith units from the elite slot to troops. Big powerful troops that are super survivable. Yes please!
Now how to use the seer after he has changed over your troops: He has a great ballistic skill, and I think a great place to hide him would be in an artilllery battery. Now he's toughness 7, he has a long range massive gun that can take advantage of his ballistic skill, and he can happily cast his psychic buffs from this point as well. The artillery section looks like it has amazing weapons, the vibro cannon and the night spinner with its new monofilament rule are affordable and powerful camping units.
That's my first thought, look forward to hearing more.

Jetbikes everywhere, they're ridiculous value compared to the other options.

You may not have noticed this yet, take a look at an Autarch on jetbike with Mantle of the laughing god and share of anuris.
Jet bikes could easily be the best infantry unit in the game.
Fortune now works on non eldar units...
Fire Prisms look to be the go to heavy slot.
Elites seem sparse.
Fast attack has several hood options with scatterwalkers seeming like fun.

War Walkers are now Fast Attack? Is this confirmed?
Oh god I hope so. Our HS section is so stretched right now and rumoured to be even more so in the new dex (will find out tomorrow!).

They arent, I wasn't thinking. I remember wishing they were than being dissapointed. Eldar will be a new favorite ally dex and a pretty good solo dex as well, problem is some weak troops apart from jetbikes, who can't reasonably make a whole army. I expect to see jetbikes and some wraithguard to be the standard for infantry.

Nothing has moved slots.
There's just too many options in Heavy Support, I don't know how to decide!

According to the leaks
Runes of protection: only useable once, before rolling for deny the witch you can decide to use the runes to boost your deny the witch by +2
Runes of clarity: one use, if the psyker fails a psychic test he may reroll the test (can also do it if he has perils)

Whats the news on the new shining spears leader, and shining spears for that matter? the new dex will probably drop at my FLGS today, so I've had no chance to look, and the only unit I have left from my trades is my spears.

No new phoenix lords (I assume that's what you meant?)
Shining Spears have got a good buff.

Independant Characters cannot shoot the guns in an artillery unit. Its under the core artillery rules. Otherwise, my BS5 runepriest would be shooting the thunderfire all the time.

Ah, was that fifth edition that it said an attached character could fire them? Ah well. I still think the artillery options are a great combination of damage, survival, and low cost in comparison to some of the other heavy slots.
I agree jetbikes are even better now with the rending guns. I'm interested to see if shuricannon upgrades are used as often. I think I would prefer the number of hits twin linked gives you versus the stronger wounds. Your searching for 6's regardless.
I look forward to designing entire armies that can ignore armor, most of the codex seems capable of doing so.

The Spiritseer would do well hiding in the backfield on a Quadgun with a squad of Rangers. Give them Shrouded and with the Stealth they already have, boom, 2+ cover save. Playing against Tau? Hope for the +1 armor save one and they'll get saves against small arms. Ld 9 is better than the Ranger's 8 and will keep them from running slightly more.
