As a general tip that I found useful, Slugga arms make great starts to a Deffgun, since you have a trigger and a grip already there. Then I just glued a bunch of gubbinz and dakka to the slugga and BAM Deffgun.

Plus it looks hilarious since it really just a bunch of guns bolted onto a regular old slugga, like the boy just slowly kept adding to it over time.

Orks are a joke army now like Nids in 5th ed and Kroot. The 6th ed rules are so pew pew now a melee army is just for the loll's you will never Win a game, well unless your playing another Ork army then your both playing with hands down the worst codex in 6th ed. Other then Lootas the best units in the codex are the Allies so... I would just use the Orks as Allies in a better codex e.g. Any other codex just to name a few

Orks kick ass even with a decade old codex. Thats the truth of the matter. It's just they take more skill than most lists to use properly and accord appropriate style points and bragging rights for using such an expert-tier army.

Never played against Orks played properly, has he

Orks are an old codex, to be sure, and lack the WTF brokenness of some codexes, but they are still very much capable of kicking butt.

Mine do. I lose the odd game to be sure (if i didn't it would mean that i was rolling newbies for an easy win...i prefer to play on an even level or uphill) but generally they do pretty well.

Orks aren't just a melee army. They can put an obscene amount of firepower downrange, and snap shots barely harm their accuracy. They make up for BS suckage by firing more shots to compensate.

They are also not too shabby at melee, which (contrary to current opinion) still works just fine.

Orks don't suck, as mentioned they just require some thinking. And even with a slightly iffy list it doesn't really matter so long as you have some fun.

ive got a bunch of old guard HWS guns (as you get 3 of each weapon in a box but only get 3x bases/guardsmen). I just need some orks to glue them on to now.

I would say go for the jet. Even having them as an opponent when they really blow stuff up, I always enjoy playing against them, win or lose. Just a personal opinion though. I have never actually played Orks.

Jets are good and cheap and very killy (strafing run with TL Str6 guns, yes please), and fighta ace helps with flyers. But it is AV10 and that makes it very vulnerable imo. That said if you want one go ahead they're good, but don't rely on it.

Issue with the dakkajet for a starting player is hes forced to buy that lame book to get its stats, since they removed the white dwarf stats and faqs. even if they were the best unit in the codex (which they arent, but still good), i'd suggest not getting them for the sole reason of spitting on that book's sale rates.

Orks are not bad, but they are more hilarious than they are good. Its much easier to just play for fun than it is to be serious with them. I'd say theyre one of the hardest to play competitive right now but they can still do it if you know what youre doing.
Hell, Bikernobz are feared for a REASON people. 450-550pts for 5-6 models that will krump anything they find and are damn hard to shoot off the board. the only times i dont run them is when im being a goofball with my army lol.

On one hand, i wish they'd update our dex so it wasnt so hard to play them. On the other, i like it as it is because right now theyre the "underdog" race and sells insanely cheap on ebay lol (ive gotten so many new in box deals that were half or more off retail price off ebay....it aint funny)

Orks do suck in 6th ed they were hard to play well in 5th ed. there were only 2 real army builds that work at all, Nob bike or Kan wall and all the boyz in the army were Terrified of melee it was safer to stay in the Big Meks KFF and go to ground every turn and hold the objective, what happen to MC and Terminators running in fear from a mob of boyz (3rd ed, 4th ed choppas que maniacal evil laugh)

All the armies I have seen Played not people on dakka dakka saying they still win, I mean in RL or on You Tube all have been playing Grot heavy armies Zzap guns since Grot are now T7 and have a 3+ and SAG Big Meks in grot units and then Allieing in units that don't suck like IG or GK so basically Ork less armies
So I Challenge You, yes You Dakkamite to post a video on dakka dakka were you win with ORKS and you can't use Allies and not get wiped off the table in 3 turns

Side note I only lost 1 game in 4th ed and 5th ed with my Orks, so I do know how to play and I lost about 40% of my games with my Space Puppies. In 6th ed I played my Orks 3 times before I gave up on them I made it to turn 3 once. I have not lost a game with my Space Wolves since 6th ed and the only change I made to the list was swapping 2 Wolf Priests for 2 Rune Priests, because 'Oaths of War' is crap now and Divination
is so balanced cough cough (sorry I mean soooooo ). I hope your getting my point, I could not have improved that much with 1 army and at the same time decline so much with the other, so it has to be the rules, If I was not understanding how to play 6th ed I would suck with both and I have successfully transitioned the last 2 editions so.........

haha challange really? How about YOU! take the challange yourself to make yourself a better player and grow a backbone and paint your skin green. Then you can SHOUT A BIG WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! into the face of your opoment as you rush him down.
So less whining like you did on your previous account. Orks are still viable and you can take in units from the IA:8 to be even more competive with the orks.
Playing orks aint easy but you have to pull trickery on your opoment make him think that you are just a old weak codex untill BAM! the entire army is in close combat.

I will write a batrep of my next upcomming battle without FW stuff i dont have a fancy cam, so no Vid.

I think theres still lots to do with orks, I'd try more but I just can't afford to buy everything and have enough models to change army lists at a whim.
That being said I would love to try running 2 weirdboys with a crap load of footslogging orks fronted by grots and support from dakkajets. Possibly some kannons at the back.

Well with the two warpheads, i had a waagh for each turn, i can guarentee you that, but i had to rely allot more on Area terrain cover as my normal big mek kff wasnt on the table. I ended up winning and that day... i was laughing as a propa deffskull would!

I just might take you up on that challenge in Dakkamite's stead.

I have a tournament coming up, and will be taking orks. I've not been tabled often with my orks, though i have lost some games, won some and drew others.

If the only Ork players you've seen have been playing like cowards and apparently don't know the rules then it's not surprising that you think orks suck The fact you played a grand total of three times in 6th with your Orks before you gave up on the army speaks volumes also

I'll even bully my friend into playing a space puppy list against my orks too, since you prefer them, and do a batrep.

My camera is only so-so for videos, but not too shabby for pics, so we should be able to document the batrep pretty well.

Turnabout is fair play though. If I take up the challenge you also have to fight a game against Orks and produce a batrep with video or photo documentation and the lists involved

Hearing a lot about loota kitbashes ITT and it's making me curious - any of you have pics of your lootas? I picked up a box of them the other day and while it's full of great gubbinz, I can't say I like the look of the stock lootas, that rollcage setup doesn't look right to me. I'm probably goung to build them as burnas and find a way to kitbash lootas that I like the look of. Very interested in what other people have done.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

To add to all that has been said about Orks I wanted to add a few things that have worked for me through 5th and 6th ed.

Typically i stack a bunch of lootas behind or in some kind of cover

Burna wagons make me very happy 12 Burnas in a battlewagon with a Deffrolla are way too much fun

I typically like to play mecha orks that are much more mobile because my opponents love to pie plate my green tide. Deft Koptas are great suicide tank busters and got a big bump in 6th ed with the new toughness rules.

Lastly i believe in a warboss squad with nob bikers. They are the best troop squad for taking an objective from someone and holding it.

I did play a Kan wall in 5th ed and found it quite effective, but with the cover nerfs in 6th i wasn't able to justify it for a slogging army. Overall if it can take a PK do it and shoota boys are excellent in a mechanized list.
One thing that always served me well is if it works well in your army versus any opponent put as much of it in as you can with Orks.
