Hey mates. After looking at the new Eldar book and liking what I saw, I have decided to jump onto the Eldar bandwagon, and I have settled my sites on running a Jet-bike Saim Hann themed list. With the changes in Eldar Jet-bikes, the idea of running a list like that definitely pipes my interest, especially now that they finally came out with a box set of Eldar Jet-bikes, which will help out a lot. Now saying that, I am just asking veteran Eldar players out there on what would be good units in the book to complement a Jet-bike list? At the moment, these particular units are the first to come to mind, as they have the mobility and the hitting power which would be effective in a Jet-bike list (besides the usual Farseer and Seer Council on Jet-bikes unit), I like the idea of the Wraithknight, as well as Viper's, Striking Scorpions, War Walkers, and Swooping Hawks to name a few. Anyways, since I am still a noob when it comes to Eldar, any advice you guys can give me on how to run the Jetbike List and what units are effective with it, and ideas and tactics would be much appreciated.

Hmmmm too early to ask questions about the new book or does no one run a jetbike themed list anymore?

Shining Spears got a huge boost, I'd definitely consider them.

Jetbikes provide excellent firepower at short range (12" for catapults, 24" for cannons) but obviously can't take down heavy vehicles and aren't any good in assault. So I would seek units that can fill those gaps.

Vypers and shining spears are both thematically fitting, and can provide anti-tank and assault capability. They do both occupy the FA section so you'll be limited in how many of these to take.

Autarchs and farseers are both good bike-mounted support. Autarchs can reduce your reserve chances, hopefully letting you bring minimum sized bike squads on later in the game to grab uncontested objectives. Farseers can get good support powers, and they have 2 primaris powers to let units re-roll hits - excellent option to buff vypers or any other fire support choice. I would also advise bike warlocks for any large jetbike squads you take.

In heavy support and elites, any of the firepower grav-tanks (fire prism probably the best) and wave-serpent mounted elite aspect squads would be good choices, mobile enough to keep up with the bikes.

The jetbike tactic is to get into cover, peak out and fire, and then hide away. With battle focus allowing you to run and shoot and moving in the assault phase for jetbikes - this is the only and most effective way of using jetbikes.

Battle Focus allows you to run and shoot, or shoot and run. Jetbikes can't run.

Indeed, they can turbo boost....which still isn't running.

Eldar Jetbikes get an assault move.
Similar thing to Battle Focus, if you don't get into hth:

Movement phase: Move 12" (maybe over terrain)
Shooting phase: shoot
Assault phase: jump back into cover.

They don't usually get Hit-and-run, but I'm sure Autarchs have ways around that.

Eldar bikes have ALWAYS had a move shoot move rule

Thanks for the help so far, and I already figured that Vipers, Fire-Prisims, and Shining Spears are good fits. What I am more interested in knowing is if any of the other units would be just as effective, such as the Wraith-Knight, Aspect Warriors, and War-Walkers. Also have considered the Crimson Hunter fighter for the S8 AP2 shots.

It depends a lot on how you plan to play the army. I've never added anything but skimmers and bikes to my Wild Host plans because they didn't fit what I wanted to do. The problem with adding a less mobile unit like war walkers or wraithlords is that they become the easy focus of your enemy and fail to provide the fire support you brought them for. Unless you just wanted them to soak up rounds...then your good.

Definitely grab a fire prism or 2. If you are going competitive, I'd still stay clear of shining spears and swooping hawks in favour of warp spiders.

I am working on a list as well, and the only aspect aside from a unit of Spears is Warp Spiders. Spiders provide more mobility than walks and close to the same firepower.

Hey guys, I was thinking of doing a fluffy Saim Hann list too, and I want to ask for some pointers.

1) Would War walkers fit in a themed Saim Hann army? If yes, what would be a good loadout for them? (I was thinking of 2 scatters lasers each)

2) Are Vypers at all competitive? Good loadout for them? (Was thinking of scatter laser again)

3) How good are Shining Spears in the new codex? what's a good squad size? Exarch worth it?

4) Would Warp Spiders work in a themed Saim Hann list? Exarch worth it?

If you guys could help me out, that would be awesome.

Basics of a list I would try to use.

HQ:
Jetbike Seer Council

Troops:
3x 9 Guardian Jetbikes
- 3 Shuriken Cannons

Fast Attack:
3 Vypers
- Scatter Lasers

3 Vypers
- Scatter Lasers

10 Warp Spiders

Heavy Support:

Lets try to not make more chaos gods, ok guys?
I'd call this thread a trainwreck, but trainwrecks are legitimately horrifying to watch. This is hilarious.

In theory any unit is fluffy on a Saim Hann army they are simply known for thier jetbikes. All aspects and presumably all equipment would be fielded by the craft world.

Love the look of this list dude, however only thing I would do is drop one of those units of 9x for 2x to 3x units of 3x, as they make awesome objective contesters for last turn shenanigans and can hold them down while your bigger units advance and engage you opponents army. Besides that, not sure if Vipers are worth it in this edition as there is a lot of stuff that would be more effective such as the Crimson Hunter flyers and such. Why Warp Spiders? And do you think a Wraith Knight, War-Walkers, and Swooping Hawks be good choices for a list like this?

A good friend who is an even better Warhammer 40k player put together a pretty good sounding and fluff fitting list for Saom Hann:

-Seer Council all with singing spears, Seer has Shard that gives +2 Strength.
-Two squads of x9 Jetbikes w/ x3 Shuriken Cannons
-x3 squads of x3 Jetbikes with x1 Shuriken Cannon to hide and take objectives
-x3 Fire Prisms
-Swooping Hawks (or) shining spears
-x2 Crimson hunters

A good balance of anti-armor and anti-personnel choices and all is fast and hard hitting, good luck!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Sounds like a good list, especially the Fire Prisims as since they have 3x types of shots, they can be very usefull against horde armies as well as the tradition mech lists such as IG with there Leman Russ Battle Tanks. However, only thing I consider would maybe dropping one of the Crimson Hunters in favor of more Jetbike Troops or Swooping Hawks, but I also keep hearing how Warp Spiders are also a good choice in this style of list.
