Hi Peeps , after a decision to not buy many more figures ( yeah right ) till the groaning attic of old school 1980's /early nineties mini's get painted I came to realise that very few are on the same size base and virtually none will rank up .

So , question is How to base them ? All on large square or go for round bases as they are never gonna fit together as units anyway ?

Thoughts appreciated !

Depends on what you'll be doing with them. If they're purely display models, then a mini-diorama on a big rectangular base would probably be easiest and best. Or just leave them on their original bases, if they're not part of a unit. (For units, if you're a sucker for punishment, you could make a special diorama base with cutout holes to fit each model's original base. Seems a lot of work though...)

But if you actually want to play with them, then I'd rebase them (which may require some razor saw work, and almost definitely adding pins) to match their equivalent current standard models.

Some good ideas there mate , tho I'm not sure I want to go as far as sawing off all the bases and pining them !

Small display dioramas would seem a good way of doing it as there seems to be lots of different races and troop types but very few that could form a usable unit , except for Dwarves which there are ALOT of ! But even they are all mixed weapon and armour types.

Maybe they should tay in the attic ?

Or they could make freebooter/mercenary warbands, of fighters from multiple races?

Or if they're in combat poses, perhaps pose them in the middle of a fight?

Yeah , thats not a bad idea mate , Eeza Ugezod's Death commando's and a handful of the other orc s would look awesome themed on a Mercenary Warband diorama as would Bugman's Rangers and a few of the others .

Convinced.

Now just need to create enough enthusiasm to do it rather than space marines !
