Hi, I'm really excited about starting a new IG army.
Like, really.
Only thing is, if GW plans to release a new codex in the next year or so, with some incredible new models
(old guards are getting old, Ogryns... meh, and I'm sure they can work on the Leman Russ too, at least imo), i'd be screwed like hell.

I really need advice here : is it worth waiting for IG to get a new codex (might be in a loooong time... Or next after DE) or should I just
run to my gw shop and start a brand new Company ?

Also, Elysyans look pretty cool and theyre lasguns look awesome too, maybe going for a fully converted army could be a
fine compromise ? (With some adeptus mechanicus dudes like in that 5 years old WD article)

Help please ! thinking about it has become a torture I cannot endure anymore

On moon miranda.

The Ogryns and Leman Russ models got redone with the last IG codex 4 years ago, I wouldn't expect resculpts of existing tanks, Ogryns likely will go finecast if they haven't already but I wouldn't expect *new* models.

I'd expect *new* models for units that don't have them (e.g. a non-forgeworld Hydra, Stormtroopers) or remain from older editions (e.g. Rough Riders), but not resculpts of any of the main units.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I wouldnt be counting to heavily on new resculpted models coming with the new IG Codex. All the other releases so far seems to have had little resculpts and more newly thought up units.

You could start a new army now. Its probably a pretty safe bet they wont make major changes to the standard infantry squad (not one of the 6th edition codexes got an updated standard troop box iirc) or the Leman Russ tanks. Most wont be changed if they keep up the releases like this, one or two might but its guesswork so far.

You could run Elysians as a FW army http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/IMPERIAL_ARMOUR_VOLUME_THREE_SECOND_EDITION_-_THE_TAROS_CAMPAIGN.html if you wanted. You could just run them with the standard IG codex too.People wont mind that you use Elysians as normal guardsmen with the IG codex. But its what you like, if you like Elysians more then Cadians go for it.

Ok thanks for the infoVaktahi, and for your detailed response Disciple.
Then tomorrow will be a great new day haha !! this is just so exciting ! You have comforted me with the idea that they will probably not sculpt new guardsmen wich was a big deal to me.

And your link proves very very usefull for anybody willing to discover Elysians. Thanks a lot !

I also highly doubt GW will resculpt much of the IG line. Frankly, they don't need it, and by their current model releases they aren't updating that much.

In short, do it!

100% the best time to start a new army is in the months before a new codex comes out. When a new codex drops, it usually contains everything in the old codex, which means any models you bought are unlikely to become obsolete.

Meanwhile, starting a few weeks before the codex comes out, the prices of the models of the new army mysteriously jump in price by 10-20%. In some cases (cf. the recent change to dire avengers) it's even worse.

So, really, it's a choice of buying models you're going to buy anyways now, or wait for them to become more expensive. The only real risk is if you're buying rather fringe units. If you stick to core units - in this case guardsmen with lasguns, chimeras, russes, and artillery - odds are very, very good that you'll be able to use them without alteration. And they'll be cheaper.

Ok thanks a LOT, great forum with great help given.
Thanks ailaros for pointing out prices jumped when new codies get released, had never noticed before (never bought anything just after release either ^^)

Then here's the deal : The adeptus Mechanicus gets bored because technology progresses are at a dead point since 10 000 years, while Tau and Eldar get incredible battle gear and mountain high war machines.

As the adeptus is only an ALLY to terra (if I understood fluff well, they joined the imperium when the emperor launched his crusade),they have secretely warned the high lords of terra that they might work with the tau, or even eldar, maybe even deal with chaos for the sake of the machine god, who is not pleased at all to see the imperium's tech decline.

An incredible Enginseer tech priest made himself known for re discovering most of the ancient plasma tech, and he was chosen by the Adeptus Mech to seek in every part of the universe for forgotten knowledge and share tech with xenos if necessary.

The imperium wanted to control this because it was so close to heresy, yet the adeptus mechanicus is core to the survival of the imperium. They decided to escort him with IG veterans. Why not space marines ? because the machine cult needed humans, not biologicaly modified super warriors that have proven to be corruptible. They needed humble veterans from tallarn cadia catachan and elysia, who saw war and blood with theyre human and real and objective eyes, bored, yet ready to serve the imperium for all theyre comrades dead on the field... not so much for the emperor himself.

Inquisition dudes felt like this small adventurous company was at heresy level over 9000, thus they sent a vindicare assassin monitor them and spy them, with the task to execute the techpriest if revealed necessary.

And so goes the small, first and only TRF "Tech Recovery Force".

Nice fluff but the only real problem with the list is that imperial guard can't use vindicare assassins, only the grey knights get assassins.
You would have to have GK allies to get the vindicare though chances are you already know this.

Stormtrooper have models?

There's the Kasrkins one and the standard stormtrooper ones.

Edit: Personally I don't care, all my infantry is going to be Kriegsmen from FW the vehicles will be sractchbuilt/conversions, with the sole exception of the Valkyrie that I already own.

I run an Elysian Drop Troop army and the list found in Imperial Armor #8 is a much more effective and overall better list, just so you know.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.
