I just wanted to let everyone know that I have expanded my line of space combat miniature maps to include a new smaller 3' by 3' size. This star map has the same beautiful artwork as the larger maps, but it is great for anyone who has limited room for miniature space combat action. The retail price is $20.
The map can be purchased from my online store under the Terrain section.

I hate to be negative but I find this looks messy and low quality, the technique is rough, splotchy and lacks depth. I can print a Hubble space telescope shot of a nebula or star field on vinyl for 40 and that is far more than double as attractive to me...
It's not that your idea isn't viable though, but you need to clean things up significantly and create a more convincing and nuanced effect with more color if you are going to succeed.

Thanks for your comment.
The reason I use the limited color palette for my space maps is to achieve a more visually accurate look. The Hubble Space telescope images, while beautiful, are science data and not just pretty pictures. Most of the images of nebulae and star forming regions are are false color images where the different colors represent chemical composition and not what the human eye would actually see. Certainly there are stars which appear to have a slightly bluish or reddish tint to them, but to be honest, that slight tinting is difficult to capture on felt.
Of course with any art discussion, the overall style is matter of opinion and I certainly respect yours. Once again, thank you for your comment.

This looks like paint splatter and spray paint.
While the images from the telescope are enhanced, they make for stunning maps. That's more important than accuracy towards what we would see.

Even true-colour shots of space tend to have some variance, you can see this in a lot of pictures of the milky way, taken from earth:
The average colour is a slightly tinted white, but that average is formed up of a mixture of all kinds of shades and hues.

Yes, while I see your point - most of us don't *exactly* play with little miniature spaceships firing fancy pewpew laser guns (on a flat plane, no less...) at each other because we're looking for scientifically accurate space combat and TBH, nor does much of LoK line look like something which would ever be "realistic" rather than just cool. Which is fine, don't get me wrong - I did back the colayth guard KS project, still have the 3D files lying around to toy with
Add to that the rather low cost of vinyl space maps at that scale (at 6x4 felt does become attractive over having something printed; 3x3 however... meh, slight variations on the theme of "cheap") and I think you might not want to build up too much stock of that map yet...

I like what you are doing. but as has been said this map looks like the back of my Spray booth. And for $20 dollors for a 3X3 also seems a little expensive especially for what looks like paint splatter. I think adding Some deep purples and the like will improve the look a lot more. I think the pictures you have on the site look much better. So maybe its just this one that doesn't look right. Or they just look much better with scenery and models on them.
Actually this is Interesting to see on here, As I have just done a tutorial on my Blog of how to make a projector into an Interactive SpaceHulk map. But one of the benefits was actually being able to display a picture of any solar system or star map on the table to play games like Battlefleet Gothic.
