As the title says. Had a game on Saturday where a large blast fired by side A scattered and hit an ongoing combat, killing all combatants from side B and leaving a lone side A model suddenly free. What we had trouble with was what happens next. The model is no longer locked in close combat as there's no combat.

Would he suddenly get to take a shooting action as it is his side's shooting phase? Or was it fair that we just gave him a Consolidate move?

He was no longer locked in combat, so would have been able to shoot.

There would be no reason for him to perform a consolidation move.

I agree with Insaniak. Consolidate happens in the Assault Phase. However this model is now suddenly not locked in combat, so he can do his Shooting Phase stuff normally, i.e. run or shoot.

Noted. I'll see with the guys next time we play then. We figured the consolidation because you usually get it when a combat ends, and this one ended. ;-)

I see the thinking, but consolidation happens as a possible end result of combat being won. In this case, no combat occurred, so you don't begin the steps necessary to reach consolidation.
Agreed on the unit being able to perform a normal Shooting phase instead... and I suppose even charge another unit instead!

By common sense I'd say he performs a consolidation move.

Going on the distorted view of reality that is RAW, probably a shooting attack.
