Why not? They could have a lot of scare factor, and they have their own uses whether it is assault of shooting

maybe we won't really know because most of us have yet to play or play against the new Eldar codex.

They just don't output enough fire power. At 3 knights that is 900 points with either 12 CC attacks, 12 S6 AP- shots, and 9 S6 AP2 small pie plates per turn. If every single one of those attacks killed something there are many armies that would just laugh at you. That just is not enough damage to account for 900 points. Additionally if you go against D. Eldar or really anyone spamming lascannons/poison then you are going to have a bad day.

Spam is the name of the game...you pick one unit that does its job well and spam the crap out of it to the full extent of the rules...that said, I don't see the wraith knight as putting out enough damage to be worth it...but if there is any effective use of a wraith knight, it's likely spamming at least two of them

It actually won't die that fast to Missile spam, if you put your foot in cover you get a 5++, and with T8 they take quite a bit of punishment. 15 Missiles only cause 3-4 wounds per turn, and those Knights could probably get to you and assault you in that time if they wanted too (one dies, but the remaining two would deal to 15 Long Fangs without breaking a sweat). toocool61 wrote:Is it practical to be a spam wraithknights and use 3 or more in a 2000 pt game?
Do people use 3 Land Raiders in 2000pt games? Are these lists competitive? Wraithknights are great units, but you are never going to need three because the role they fill isn't one which is effective in large amounts. They are fast anchors i.e they don't die easily and form good pivot points for your army to move around + act as both heavy anti tank units and a reasonable assault deterrent which can act as an assault cleanup unit (i.e it fights weakened assault units or shooty units that can't hurt it that it can actually kill off/break). They aren't high firepower shooting units, or hammer assault units, so you don't get much out of them by spamming them. @ansacs. No one should be running the Suncannon loadout, 2 S10 shots that can ID any infantry threatens things much more than 3 S6 AP2 blasts. If the Suncannon/Shield loadout was the same cost as the Wraithcannon loadout then you might consider it, but since Eldar can get heaps of quasi Rending and have great torrent ability in general they really don't worry about 2+ saves (or just most infantry in general) in the first place.

Well that would actually be a relatively ideal list to face as it takes 27 shots from the longfangs to kill a single wraithknight with a 5++. Additionally high value, small squads are the perfect targets for a wraithknight with its S6 AP2 3x small blast cannon and its 4 melee attacks. You can only take 15 of them in a FOC so it will take you 2 turns of concentrated fire to take one down assuming the eldar player doesn't just charge it into marine squads which it is pretty good against (with shooting and CC will kill ~6 marines its turn and then ~2 marines in the marine assault phase).

Practical, not really. Intimidating and overpowering to some lists, ow yea. If a list can not handle 1 knight 3 will really throw the player off. If someone can deal with a knight easy butchering 3 shouldn't be hard. Most players will have to focus on killing the rest of the eldar army 1st, then worry about the knights later. Other eldar units just put out more damage and have less durability.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I don´t think three would be practical. it just gets way too expensive points wise.
The main use I see for the wraithknight is to soak up anti tank firepower. That way your tanks can stay alive and do the damage that the wraithknight can´t. Let´s face it, for its points the firepower it brings is not all that great.
Therefore I think the optimal number of wraithknights to run is one that lets you have other threats aswell. and when you´re spending 900p and all your heavy slots for 3 wraithknights there is not much room left for other things in your army.

True^^
Allthough I think if it fits your army having one doesn´t hurt at all.

It's not a real choice when you have Wraithlords. For half the cost you can have a unit that is just as good in CC and doesn't have to pay 40 points for an invuln save. I would rather spam Wraithlords and the Avatar before I start spamming Wraithknights.

Razgriz22 wrote:I actually am doing the reverse :-p Using my rev for a wraithknight. Might as well get some use out of it when not in apoc. Better than dropping another $125. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sounds like its too many points for what you're getting. As McNinja said it may be better to spam wraithlords. Run 2 FOC's get 6. That seems just as intimidating as the 3 bigger models. Seems like they'd have a wow factor for the first time you field em at your local gaming center and then your opponents will be ready for em next game. I'm guessing they'll figure you're definitely going to field em considering you spend close to $400 total for em and don't want em collecting dust.
