One of the most important things in 6th, IMO, is to bring guns with more rate of fire, rather than higher strength or lower AP. I think that in 6th weapons such as Lascannons, Missile Launchers and Meltas are far less useful than they were in 5th. Hull points, MCs, Flyers, all these new ripples in 40k lead me to believe that the more shots you have, the better off you are.

You have to be able to beat armies who bring over 100 models, you have to be able to outlast, or destroy flyers. Most importantly you need to have enough troops of your own to actually hold objectives till the end.

I've been noticing much the reverse, actually. Autocannons seem more or less inferior to Lascannons in almost all situations thanks to the new importance of AP and prevalence of high Toughness MCs with good saves. A Riptide laughs off Autocannons but is threatened by Lascannons-- so does a Predator, an Exorcist, a Hammerhead/Skyray, etc. AV13 vehicles are increasing in popularity and you generally need to bring the power to penetrate their front armor. It remains to be seen whether Wave Serpents are enough to change this.

Agreed on that for sure. I'm fielding far more troops than I once would. My 1500 point 6e armies outnumber my 2000 point 5e armies.

The thing about Lascannons is that they are incredibly pricey for most armies. Vendettas/Sabres are nice and cheap, but most Marine codices have pricier, or less useful options. For example, Predators are fairly cheap, however the sponsons location and lack of mobility make it a sub par firing platform in my experience.

Also, the dawn of Mechdar will further invalidate high str., low ap weaponry. As the new Serpents require rate, not quality of fire to destroy.

So my post was also considering the effects of Eldar.

Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh

Is there such an army type for; " I play Marines...allied with guard..." He takes the minimal hq & 2 tac squads and then brings company command platoon, 5x10 guards in a single slot, another 5x 10 guards in the last troop slot, 1 squad of elite vets, 3 vendettas in 1 slot, and 3 lrbt in 1 slot.

Why does that list even have an SM detachment?

To fool opponents into taking pricy ap3 weapons.

That would only fool some one dumb enough to either not look at the list first or if they list tailor to take out MeQ. Most good opponents will take a balanced list and smoke list like that.

Unfortunately for him my primary army only has one AP3 weapon in the entire codex

This is fantastic. Kudos for the work and have a +1.

This is helping me a lot with deciding which army to go for.

So far... The army that ticks all of the boxes with hard counters is Dark Eldar.

They have an answer for nearly everything in just with the most glaring weakness being Tau and Cron Air.

I haven't added anything in awhile. To be completely honest, the only suggestions I still need to add is Eldar and Tau. But I haven't played either of them in 6th edition so I don't want to speculate or go off of what I have read. In two months, I'll be playing in more tournaments, but summer is my job's most busy time of the year!

I'll definitely be posting more and updating strategies when I get back into the competitive field again. As of now, it's once a week games with my local gaming group.

Very much appreciate this list. It's good to see all the basics quantified in one place. Better for making sure I haven't missed something in my list than relying on memory alone.

+1 Exalt
