My recommendation is to measure the spots where you will be placing the magnets and buy the biggest ones you can get that fit there.
If it is a part that has to be pointed a certain direction and then consider putting two in parallel. The reason is simply that a single magnet will allow the part to turn, while two in parallel with each other will keep the part from moving. Even if it means using two smaller ones.

*bursts though room with axe* HEEEAAARRRS JHONNY!!!
What I did was file a bit of the ball joint of each arm until it was a flat surface then glued the magnet onto where I just made the flat surface... it looks good and it worked for me .
clively. I think Forgefiend is fine as most of the guns is pointing the front anyway. For maulerfiend. The only variation is the cutters or tendrils. so it shoudl be fine.
Yes please let me know the measurement kronk.
And happygolucky. Any chance that you can show me a picture of your forgefiend? if thats not too much to ask.
So far I have magnetized a Necron Ghost Ark/Doomsday Ark, Rhino/Pred side hatches, Space Marine arms. I use Neodymium magnets that I get from Hassle Free miniatures. 2x1mm are great for plastic arms and small objects. 5x1mm are good for things the size of terminator arms. They can also hold a bit of torque. 10x1mm for large objects. The 10mm magnets are very strong and what I have used to magnetize my Necron Ark.
Some advice. Check then double check the polarity of the magnet before gluing

That is much appreciated! Thanks DeffDred.

Awesome. Exactly what I needed. The size and where to get magnets. Thanks.

I do a lot of magnet work on my models. My advice is don't hesitate to also use pinning. If the part I'm using the magnet on I don't want to turn/rotate/wiggle, I usually use a magnet and pin. I don't really just pin things, as the pin holes will eventually loosen up. But using a pin with the magnet helps stabilize some parts, while still having the quick swapping convenience of a magnet.
For example I magnetized the turret guns on my predators. I didn't like the "lazy gun" effect, with the gun always pointed down, so I put a pin in the underside of the gun to set the minimum height of the turret. If I ever for some reason need to be able to point the gun down more (for some overly fussy line of sight call), I can just pull the pin out and pop the gun back in.
I've also added small pins to arms to keep them raised in the position I want them in. I just use a small magnet in the center, and a small pin near the back of the joint. This works because marine arms have a fair amount of plastic to drill into with the shoulder pads.
Another thing when magnetizing stuff that you know you are doing more than one of is plan them together. All my predators have the polarities the same. This way I don't need to keep track of which turret/cannon/sponson/ect belong to each tank. I do the same with magnetized weapons, arms, bases, you name it. Not having to keep all the parts with each model they were originally with is great. I have about a dozen melta guns, plasma guns, and flamers, and any guy set up to carry that style of weapon can use any one of them.
In short; keep track of your polarity, use pinning to help with pieces you don't want to move as much/at all, and set up your magnets so they are model independent.
For sizes, I uses:
1/16" X 1/32" for small weapons, such as flamers/plasma gun/ect.
3/32" X 1/16" for arms and small vehicle parts such as accessories, and small weapons.
1/8" X 1/16" for medium vehicle parts such as medium guns, or gun mounted with peg/sockets of that size
3/16" X 1/16" larger vehicle stuff such as large guns or side doors of a rhino/predator.
1/4" X 1/16" for really big stuff. I've only needed a few of these, and honestly can't remember off hand where. These would probably come in handy with things like monstrous creatures and bigger parts mounted on the under side of fliers.

Here ya go all it was, was filing the ball joint until it was a flat surface, then I placed the magnet inside.
And to show that it does not look dodgy when its finished
Hope this Helps .
I think I fixed your pictures.
You Both have been very Helpful!
I will post a picture of the finished product when I am done with 2 of them badboys. Cant wait!
Now i need to finish my final exams. lol.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Happygolucky. I am assuming the magnet on the body on the forgefiend is 10mmx1mm?
and the one on the legs are 2mm x 1mm? or is it 5mm x 1mm?

Yes the work was done by the notorious BTP, love em, hate em. thats your call... but then again they did some decent work.
excuse him just slapping it all together...
Blue table painting. Awesome video. gives me a better idea of which magnet goes on which point.
Thanks!
