True, but they are assigned the female gender in our eyes because that's how we perceive them
And that is the exact same reason why Astartes are male regardless of the various objections against the assignment of gender to them. Same with Orks.

True.
Though recently i've come to think that SM would be more interesting if they were totally genderless...

To be totally genderless they'd also need to be voiced by people who sound androgynous.

And imagine how much that would piss the average Marine fanboy off?

That'd be completely epic as a Slaanesh Marine though.

I believe that's in addition to their "harsh training" and hormone therapy. We all know that unless you're combating a hormone driven condition (like depression, sexual desire, ect.) you are likely to relapse or commit some sort of heresy. In the case of heavily indoctrinated individuals, it usually takes the form of acting out. One cannot deny themselves humanity without removing it entirely. Faith alone cannot do that, but it definitely acts a great catalyst once the deed of destroying your previous manhood has been done.

Faith alone doesn't stop marines from going renegade as the lore proves many times over. However, a swift blow to the head from a Chaplain's crozius will make others think twice about "acting out". It's no wonder that marines who act out usually have to hide in the Maelstrom/Eye of Terror.

Oh dear he might start looking at other factions instead...
We can't have that, everyone must play Space Marines...

Space Marines are interesting in a weird Frankenstein's Monster kind of way. They are master of warfare, skilled veterans and victors of thousands of battles but they are totally separated from those they protect. Most of the time the average citizen thinks they are a myth made up to scare them into the Emperor's light.

Faith alone keeps Sisters from going renegade. So apparently Sisters are stronger-willed than Astartes! [/trolltrolltroll]

Jokes aside, Miguel, do you have any details on how Eldar and Orks will be implemented? You have talked about Marines and other, slightly different Marines, but do you have info for those of us that simply don't care about Marines? For example, will you only have a single craftworld? A single Klan of Orks? IE, can you give us more information that isn't about Marines?

Sister's have belief and faith.
Marines just think of him as a man due to how close they are to him...
Ironic that.

And yet, Sisters arguably receive His favor more than Astartes do. Probably because of their loyalty, which has been proven in 5000 years of conflict, whereas less it took less than 1000 years of conflict before half of all Astartes betrayed Him.

Or, to put it in different terms, apparently, the adopted Daughter is beloved by the Father more than the biological Son.

To be honest, the Emperor looked upon his Primarchs/Astartes as his troops. Tools to be used and discarded as he saw fit (ie- Thunder Warriors from the Unification Wars ). The Primarchs/Astartes viewed the Emperor as their father and got butthurt when he didn't reciprocate their feelings. One of the reasons the Heresy happened was the Emperor was going to give control over the Imperium after the Great Crusade to civilian bureaucrats instead of the Legions who died building it.

Apparently the Astartes Legions didn't realize that he called himself the the God-Emperor of Mankind, not he God-Emepror of Astarteskind

Actually, he just called himself the Emperor. The Lectitio Divinatus was what coined him as the "God-Emperor".

I meant to emphasize the "of Mankind" part. The "God" part was just habit.

The Emperor viewed religion as evil and responsible for taking mankind into the dark ages.

The Emperor burned down the capital city of the planet Khur because the people of the city venerated him as a God-Emperor and more specifically to punish Lorgar and the Word Bearers for spreading worship of the emperor through the Imperium.

Because your statement is so out of character. The emperor never referred to himself as a god of anything. Thus your point was lost to the fact that this part of it stood out so much it obscured what point you were going for.

It really didn't.
It's kinda pedantic to pick up on that and not what she actually said...

The situation has changed quite a bit since then, though. At this point, worship of the Emperor is pretty much the main thing keeping the Imperium unified.

Also, it's very easy to look at the SoB's acts of faith, resistance to warp stuff and Celestine/other Living Saints as being boons from the Emperor as a result of their faith. Though this is, of course, ambigous.

OT, I know, just wanted to throw my two cents in. It's an interesting part of the fluff.

So uhm, yeah! Talking about 40k religion, Marine genders, Sisters of Battle, cultural observations are cool and all... But what about that whole 40k MMO thing...?
