I have talked with my colleagues and you are all right. I will have a more clear concise launch. I have gathered only 5 websites on-board, 20 pending. We will wait until further verification. Also its nothing like dakka dakka, its a post/retail.

One big question: what do you intend to offer that's new? IE, what can I get at your prospective site that I can't already get at Dakka Dakka?

I am looking into selling merchandise eventually. I am also looking into other personal retailers to join in. i.e
http://www.wobblymodelsyndrome.com/index.html
to create various selections of dice, "how to", dice, ect.

That's not really anything new. In the age of twitter and free hosted blogs, why should we give you money to start a site?

In the age of kickstarter and indiegogo, why should anyone have to have a real concept to get money out of gamers? Everyone is doing one of these now, only a few have original ideas, but they are still trying to get something for nothing.

If you read, the money is to back the site. It's to help pay for the domain name as well as the hosting. Doing so earns you perks. I have not found a nerd type website that involves all the unknown nerd communities. They are tons of fan sites who sell their own creations and art. This will help make a centralized place for all those venues.

Umm yeah, I'm not sure how "discounted product" counts as "nothing"...

That's a good idea, but:-
- What are all these 'unknown' nerd communities you are talking about? List some.
- Have you started contacting some of these nerd communities?
- How do you intend to bring them onboard? What can you offer them apart from visibility?
- How do you intend to contribute to their bottom line? Visibility is good, but there's a lot more work behind it to bring business in.
- What is your business plan?
- What are the contingencies that you have planned for, and how do you plan to communicate them to your onboarders?
- If I back your Kickstarter, what's in it for me? What are the pledge levels and what are the detailed offerings to me?
- What perks can you offer? If it is free or discounted stuff from these nerd communities, how do you intent to get them to agree?
If you're going to use Kickstarter as an investment platform, I'd suggest that you have ready answers to all these, and then some.

Wow, that's... uh... really expensive.
Actual websites cost maybe $100/year to operate if you're doing it yourself; blogs are less to free.
Advertising can pay for maintenance.
You can invest your own capital: $1k for something you really believe in and want to work is a small investment. Sell off an army if you need to.
Also, the $100 perk is for the potential to get something more than the $50 perk... that seems a bit outlandish.

If I'm reading it right he's getting the products from these communities also. He's really not giving anything away and getting the money for the website. If its just a way to get discounted merchandise then the real point of a kickstarter is lost, and yes I know it's an indiegogo . There's nothing new here, he's just trying to mainstream niche material.
I would like a better idea of the content he's talking about before commenting further, but if he's just opening up a site like dakka, but has sub forums for Polly pocket fans, my little ponies, and Barbie mass battle systems then I'm not interested at all. Right now it's too vague and doesn't give me a reason to back it.
