Hi folks,

You may or may not be aware that the rules for Moloc were updated upon the release of Imperial Armour 12: Fall of Orpheus. Having had a look at the guy I feel like he's pretty pimp, but I was wondering what you guys thought based on his rules and stats?

In case you can't find them on the Interweb, I'll help you out a little:

He's 235 points and can be selected as a HQ unit in a Space Marine army.

WS: 6
BS: 5
S: 4
T: 4
W: 4
I: 5
A: 3
Ld: 10
Sv: 2+

He has a S6 AP2 melee weapon that attacks at initiative and has a Storm Shield for a 3++. The melee weapon has a single use S8 AP2 shot at 12" and he also has a single use S10 Orbital Bombardment on one large blast marker (Ordnance, Barrage).

He's got Preferred Enemy: Space Marines (including GK's, Space Wolves etc...). Any unit he joins is Fearless and doesn't suffer any Initiative penalties for charging into terrain. If selected as your Warlord he gets +1 VP for every character he kills in a Challenge. On top of all that he's an Eternal Warrior.

As far as Chapter Masters go, I think this guy's pretty boss hard. I'm not entirely sure he's worth his points mind you, but he's damn sure gonna be fun to play.

How would you use him?

Sounds like a prime canidate to throw into a land raider with some Assault Terminators if you ask me.

He doens't just have PE: Space Marines, if he's the Warlord you replace Chapter Tactics with it. So, pretty much your enitre army is PE:SM. That's pretty huge when about 50% of armies are MEQ.

Wow, in that case I'd say he is definitely worth his cost.

The Minotaurs CM is in my mind the best Space marine character out there. Boss fluff, boss rules, and a model to make Abbadon cry. He's comparable to Lysander in damage output, with far superior army buffs at a comparable cost, and with even more snazzy benefits. If you have the model, you'd better use him.

At 235 he's ok, he can take alot of things in combat, but he still has to watch out for the big boys, like Abaddon and The Swarmlord, if he was closer to the 200 mark, he would much more worth it imo.

You don't think granting your entire Army PE: Space Marine is worth it? The beatstick part is just a bonus, the real gem is PE.

+1 Vp for every character killed in a challenge. This is the stuff of legends.

Against high character count armies ( Chaos, IG ) you can make it literally impossible for your opponent to win the game.

Not for 235 points, not even against marines.

Ah yes, I forgot that he can grant PE to his entire detachment, pretty sweet that.

I think I'll proxy play test him and then I'll be picking him up from the Forge World boyo's when I get paid if he's any good in practice, along with a bunch of Marines and Terminators in appropriate armour to start a nifty little Minotaurs force!

Chaos maybe, but not any other army. Decline the challenge, laugh as the 235 point character kills a few meatshield guardsmen.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

He's worth his points in today's meta even though it grows less meq intensive on a daily basis. The PE is huge.

Against csm where a challenge can not be declined he is a beast.

That being said he's only worth his points. He's not a super cheap steal.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Yeah there's always the fact that people can generally just decline a challenge, which is wise against such a CC beast but that aside I think he's still just about worth his points. I can see him being pretty darn scary at the spearhead of an assault terminator squad pouring out of a Land Raider.

Here's something to ponder... He can be Battle Brother allies with pretty much any Space Marine chapter. It might be worth giving thought to the possibility of attaching him to a death star unit of some description from another codex. I think he has a rule whereby you aren't allowed to select another Chapter Master in your army if you've selected Moloc, so you'd have to work around that and see what you can come up with.

The VP from challenges offers your opponent some choices though; do you tarpit him with challenges like you would other melee monsters, or do you let your squad die to preserve the VP? I rather like that aspect of him TBH.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Agreed. He's an interesting proposition that I look forward to trying out!

I don't play minotaurs, but I like their fluff, and he is a well balanced character I that would like to see him included in the 6th ed space marine codex.
