When I subscribe to a painting and modeling thread, is it possible to only get alerted when the person who started the thread makes an update?

It would be even better if there was two levels of update. I still want alerts to threads with new posts but it'd be nice if they were highlighted somehow when the OP had posted.

So I guess that means that it doesn't exist. If it was implemented, I would think this would be the best idea. Automatically Appended Next Post: Would it be good for me to PM an admin, or will they see this anyway?

What would be nice is if as a creator of the thread we had an option to flag our new posts in our threads as an update. That way with this system it isn't just popping up when they're just replying or there's a little chatter going.

You can always update your thread title to let people know when you've made an update...but having your thread get bumped when other people reply only helps your thread get viewed, so it is quite important.
Also, the 'blog view' and the thread filter by user also allow people ways to highlight what the OP in a thread has posted while cutting out the chatter.

Good point, that's the most elegant solution, notu. Just a box you can tick as an OP.
It winds into an idea I was having about making blogs more blog like. I was thinking it would be great to have a special section before the OP that works like a content list, linking to your updates and such. Maybe replies working like comments attached to your updates. Heavy workload to implement though...

I'm dabbling with this idea at the moment by placing an asterisk in front of new posts when they happen from an OP. As you can see, right now it is a bit broken, but it is not a bad idea so am tinkering as it is a fairly light load that wont hurt the server to implement, it is just a bit complex trying to shoehorn it in and I did it while chatting to grey_death last night so have a few bugs to iron out over the weekend

Ah, I was about to ask if the asterisks were a glitch or something. Maybe someone can just make a new bullet for them when the system is going properly.

Indeed, I already make heavy use of the two. The filter is very nice for when you're trying to find something in a thread.

Thanks yakface! I didn't know that you could filter the thread. I will be using that a lot more now! It still doesn't fix the whole update thing, but it will be useful.
And I didn't think about how replies will generate more views, so that would be good to keep.
Thanks lego for working on that! I'm excited to see what you come up with.
