Subject: Convergence of Cyriss, are they actually a thing?

So, I'm getting a little bit tired of the insanity that is 40k and thinking of starting some sort of Warmachine type army to have something else to spend my time on (sorry hordes, robots are cooler than giant monsters).
Before I did much research on any kind of mechanics or detailed back-story I was pulling for Cryx because they look reasonably intimidating and what I knew about their fluff seemed interesting. Then once I started digging some more into the setting and lore I found out about these convergence guys. To me they seem like everything I like about cryx only even better (make of that what you will. I honestly don't know why I like them so much, but they look awesome).
Are they even out yet? if so, I'm guessing they're not that "beginner friendly".

Convergence was given a pre-release at this years Lock and Load, expect public release of the items in the next few months.
And after reading most of the Forces book, their background and philosophy is quite amazing.

Alright. Thanks for letting me know. I'll hold off on taking the plunge for a bit then. Also I love the part in your signature about infinity. It was one of the games I've looked at recently and I really didn't like the look of any faction in particular. There's a limit on how many "super cute anime girls" are allowed on one tabletop and Infinity violates it.

The Convergence stuff that I've seen is all pretty stellar. They have some focus interaction rules that makes running a lot of warjacks very efficient.
I expect to see a lot of 'jack heavy lists from them.
The starter box should be out pretty soon, and I'm sure that's the best starting point. Learn to play with the starter box, then expand on them as you go.

Actually, if you want something like that more extreme than Infinity, there is Super Dungeon Explorer and Relic Knights by Soda Pop. (Personally, I like infinity, starting it up soon, but different strokes. Now back on topic).
As for Convergence, yes they are a thing, but the models are still in the works so it is going to be a few months before they actually have models. For now, look at the faction book they have or the NQs they were released in, and see if people will let you proxy their stuff so you can see if you like it. Last saturday I played a game against the faction. Not as scary as it came off to be, it is more like a Hordes play-style to it as you need to kill it on the first turn you charge it. Also, the focus sharing they have (forgot the name of it) is really unique and can be devastating if done right.

Ok then. I get the feeling that everyone and their dog will be playing Cyriss for a while since they're the "new thing". At least their tactics will get developed quickly so that I won't have to flail around on my own
Also, about infinity, I really loved the look of the Aleph robots, but I swear they made all the anime girls even more anime girl-y to make up for the robots. Heh, nothing against Asian culture but I just never liked the aesthetic all that much (says this, plays Tau in 40k...)

Very true, then again it is not like Gw where it says "oh, here is what we are announcing. You have to wait and see how everything is when it releases lol' where PP seems to at least let people play test the rules and so on to see if you want to play them and playtest it. Also for Infinity, the anime aspect for me is not that overbearing compared to what Soda pop does (yes, I am a fan of anime, but sometimes too much of it gets kind of annoying, especially all the cutesy stuff that seems to be common today..bleh...). Also fun fact that no one will care about: One of the artist (not going to mention names of the artist, his site, or links and keep it as clean as possible so I do not get in trouble) that works for Soda Pop has his own....Mature page (the best way to put it as I can) of characters in videogames and anime in that art style... not something you really see everyday in your common, run-of-the-mill Miniatures company I say.

Also keep in mind that PP has said that CoC will not be adding new units like the other factions due. But yea they are legit and really stinking good (mostly because nobody who has faced them yet has any clue how to counter them).

Not entirely true. They won't be getting updates as often, but they'll still get updates.

Honestly, my interpretation of the exact wording of their statement was basically PP covering their ass for when CoC doesn't get anything in Vengeance (which makes sense since they are just getting their release and may not be fully caught up in terms of models by the time Vengeance is released). Given the amount of attention Convergence is getting I doubt that PP won't utilize the factions profitability.

Or just wait two weeks. The first wave hits July 10th, with most things from LnL (including Prime Axiom) arriving by the end of August.

I'd honestly be surprised if they get anything in the next 2 books.

There's an interview with DC (the lead designer) on Convergence on Muse on Minis. I got the impression that probably Vengeance and the book after probably won't have Convergence in them, but the next book might. Though that in mind, I also don't expect more than what Mercenaries or Minions get, rather than the full assortment that the main Factions are dolled out.
And stuff.

Mercs and Minions having been making out better than some of the factions lately...
As for Cyriss. I doubt they will have anything in the next book. But after that I expect they will get the full treatment if they are half as popular as PP thinks they will be.
If sales are truly dismal then they may end up as a secondary faction. but I am tending to doubt that.
Look at Ret. They started off much smaller, but now are getting as big or bigger updates than the other factions.
tl/dr; Cyriss will be just fine and will be a playable faction.
