I'm just reading through my codex and assembling my new 3 pack of crisis suits and I notice it says " may take up to three items from the Ranged Weapons and/ or Support Systems lists.". Now I've always sort of been the moron who just sticks on what's in the box (only 3 though, mind you). But now I've seen that networked markerlights are in the support systems list and I must have them.

So my question is; can I?

I don't know what you're looking at but the Tau codex that just came out in April does not list markerlights as an upgrade for any crisis suits.

Short answer - no. If you want a suit with a networked markerlight buy an XV-84 from forgeworld and give the upgrade to your commander.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I quoted the exact line I'm looking at and the networked markerlight is in the support systems list.

the abbreviated support systems list is in the top half of pg 105 and the full list is on 68-69, yes? that should confirm my codex

maybe i'm looking at the wrong list?

the way it's written I could take kroot rifles and I know I can't do that.

so either I'm not looking at the right list or some smarty-pants made a boo-boo

Not in the list that matters, which is the one on page 95 telling you what they cost. A Network Markerlight is a support system, but that doesn't automatically make it available to everyone.

Aha. OK, Duncan made a boo-boo.
Thanks guys, although I do think the codex should be clearer with less lists.

Page 95 makes it pretty clear which lists the Army List entries are referring to.

Yeah, but I didn't even remember 95 existed, I'm not saying it's bad, I just think clearer formatting would benefit the hobby.

Editors that are actually competent would benefit the hobby too. Hasn't happened yet though.

What like the lovely, uberspecific list of anything possible that previous edition codexes use.
The thing that everyone complained about since they removed the awesome wargear lists, the thing that everyone was right about as it left said codexes without any really cool gear that people are likely to use resulting in cookie-cutterness(?) and general lack of variety.
Tell me the new fancy gak in the new books isn't much cooler and more useful.
