First of all pardon me if a thread like this already exists - unfortunately forum search has not returned an useful results, so i will assume it doesnt.

I have only recently learned of the death from above expansion, and from what i hear (i dont actually own the book yet) its pretty terrible. My question is, is it required to use it in wh40k games? Is it supposed to be the "addition to codex", or just an extra type of play like say forgeworld or something?

Do i have to buy yet another expensive book just to be able to play with others at local GW clubs? Or is it a "use if you want" kind of thing?

It's mostly optional.
Any changes to rules were included in the FAQ's.
It's only really required if you're running Vanilla Space Marines and want to include a StormRaven.

It has the up to date rules for a few flyers, and that's it. So unless you use those flyers, nothing else in it is compulsory.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Or if you're playing Black Templars and want a Storm Talon/Raven. Vanilla needs it to play the Talon as well. So, in short, if you want a flier and you're playing Templars or Vanilla you'll need it, otherwise it's worthless from a rules-perspective.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

There are new rules for necron flyers and corrected rules for orc, well, and of course for the usual marines and BT, but will soon be the new codex, so it is not as important as it is, like for the orcs.

The necron flyer rule changes were included in their FAQ. However, the Ork fliers do require the book.
