ok so the short version is i want to get some custom dice made up with a symbol for the 6 pip. i have approached chessex to do it and they are happy to. ASLONG as the symbol is not related to anything GW as

now this is a black and white of the tzeentch dragon chaising its tail at poor detail levels befitting going onto a 16 mm dice. what is the story with how far something must be changed to get around this situation of breaching copyright/TM of the symbology?

Heck the cooler at MWG got Tau dice with that Tau icon on them i don't see GW make em.

Ask a lawyer. The Internet is hardly going to give you any concrete advise.

thanks and get charged more than the dice would ever be worth for it....

OR see if someone has had similar experience and knows what the story is with this.

Chessex aren't going to care about any type of lawyering you may throw at them, even if you got a proper lawyer to read it all through and give his opinion.

It's not worth it for chessex, EVEN IF IT'S TRUE. GW can make their lives difficult even if they don't have a legal leg to stand on. There is no point in aggrevating that just to give you a handful of dice.

Give it up, find something else.

See if they'll let you use the Tzimisce symbol, its a good substitute.

sit down and play dead is why GW has gotten everyone dancing to their tune, except chapter house and a little author with a book that had the term "Space Marine" in it.

anyway iv offered up another icon/symbol that should be sufficiently different by meaning something totally different that it should pass muster.

That's too bad. I was able to get some dice made a year or so ago with a Khorne symbol on the 6 face. I later got some Tyranid-themed dice for one of my sons. I was going to get some more dice for my two other boys that play, but hadn't gotten around to it.

Inform Chessex that the Ouroboros is not, in fact owned by GW and that you will take your business to someone else more reasonable.

Alternatively, stop spending your time and money on a game and company you clearly hate irrationally.

and thanks for pointing out the symbols name, i got lazy there, so it goes all the way back to Tutankhamun tomb.... but of an interesting read

All good things come to an end. They made the dice while they could. Now that someone has mentioned it to GW or some at GW saw the dice they get a nice cease and desist letter, so they stop doing it. Happens all the time to all sorts of businesses.

Either find a company that makes dice that has yet to recieve the GW threat or change the design enough that it doesn't cause Copyright issues.

That would be relevant if he weren't using an image that GW actually made. Although "a snake eating its own tail" is the Ouroboros sign, that doesn't mean you can't make a specific one and call it yours and own the copyright to that specific design.
