Hey all i'm new to the game, (just picked up the Cryx book last week) and i'm really trying to wrap my head around which units do what and which do what better.
I don't know the full rules yet and i haven't had a practice game yet but having advice beforehand would be greatly appreciated!
Any advice would be helpful, weither it's a list you run or what units you like best, which units do this better, or which do that better, what units you think are terrible and why, just anything that can help a new Cryx player out!

Play more games. Read the forums and tactica.
After that pick a caster you want to start with and then read about them and what they like in their lists.
If you want some common models that are useful with most casters:
Skarlock
Bane thralls and UA
Banelord Tartarus
Raiders and UA
Deathjack
Hard to go wrong with any of those.

I plan on getting the starter box so Deneghra will be my first caster, but i plan on using terminus as my main warcaster, i like having a leader who can hold is own while also boosting his units.
And actually the whole reason why i chose cryx was the deathjack, that model just screams awesome!
Thanks for the reply so far i was wondering if the raiders were useful or not, and i like the bane thralls and bane knights just didn't know if they were the best infantry

Bane thralls are widely considered some of the best infantry in the game, though you're really going to want to pick up Tartarus as well. He negates some of their only disadvantages (spd 5, low mat) and it extremely potent in and of himself.

You should really consider sticking with Deneghra. She's one of the most universally reviled casters by the enemies of the Dragonfather, and with good reason. I would risk saying she is nearly perfect.
If you do want to play with Terminus, give him a BIG undead escort. He's just too big a target.
Cheers!

its not really a "fair" question, to be perfectly honest.
advice: get the rulebook, play lots of games. giving "lists" and "preferences" really wont do anything for you. this isn like 40k where i can give you one of the three good builds of a codex, and off you go stomping your friends. No, pretty much everything in warmachine can be built into an effective game winning straegy.
youll find most things are good, the problem is you simply cant take it all, as 35pts stretches only so far. have fun!

It is really hard to go wrong with any Cryx caster or unit. I actually like my raiders much more than my banes. But I play the two dennys and use them to jam things up.
If you are going with terminus he likes different certain stuff. I have not played him, but a quick look at him he likes undead troops for sacrificial pawn. And probably not much in the way of jacks. So the raiders and deathjack may not be the best to combo with him.
