I personally liked some of the aspects of the old marker system, especially with regards to how Seeker Missiles worked. This upgrade is an attempt to bring greater to versatility to Markerlights

UMS[50pts] The UMS is a Signature system and also takes up a battlesuit hardpoint.
So long as the bearer is on the field, the following bonuses apply.

The bonus(es) from the Pinpoint and Scour rules can be applied to any unit within 6" the marked target.

Seeker missiles fired from vehicles using the Seeker rule do not have to the same target as the Vehicle's other weapons.

The latter makes no sense with the concept of the item, and the former... well, it eases up the reliance on massed pathfinders, which I kind of like, because there are loads of other awesome things in the Fast Attack section that never see light because pathfinders are so necessary, but it's still pretty broken considering what Markerlights do.

What part of the second rule do you not understand?

My goal for this was a more fluid marker network. Currently Seeker Missiles are restricted to firing at the same target as vehicles, limiting the total number of enemy units that can be engaged.

Combined with the Tau's lack of integrated heavy weapons, it leaves Pathfinders and Fire Warrior unprotected when high AV and high toughness arrive.

With the change to the rule, it represents ground troops laser designating an air strike from nearby support vehicles without impeding those vehicles ability to do their main jobs, hunting tanks etc.

I didn't say I didn't understand it, I said it doesn't make sense.

Why would one guy carrying a piece of wargear affect a different model entirely in this way?

Yes, the idea that a vehicle has to fire at the same target one of its missiles was independently fired at by a different model is silly, but how do you justify it working in your head? You need a piece of wargear for the vehicle itself, like a multi-tracker/target lock to do that sort of thing. If anything, a networked targeting system like what you're suggesting would grant a bonus for firing at the same target as the seeker missile.

I understand what your saying. It doesn't really make sense. I was just trying to come up with a fluffy justification for the rules. Perhaps it's a piece of gear that works with the existing markerlight network that improves efficiency and uses Air Caste satellite targeting to triangulate nearby foes.

Hmm, potentially. When homebrewing, it's always a good idea to start with the fluff and then make the rules fit it rather than the other way round.

I would rather see:

10-15 point smart seeker missiles that have the special target lock system of shadow sun.

Or make a command control utility drone for field operations that makes marker lights persistent for units with 12" for a ton of points.
