Growlin' Guntrukk Driver with Killacannon
|
Hallo forum.
This is a blog I wanted to start for a while, though I don't have all I need to proceed swiftly whit It.
I fall in the underground chambers and plots of Inquisi/Necromunda looking at the character a lot of Dakka users can achieve with passion and imagination.
All the main names will be in my mother tongue with translation in English because I love the sound of It and It could be interesting for You readers as well.
This thread will be about the construction of miniatures that are part of a Void Pirate gang called "Gazze Ladre" ("Magpies" in Italian) at first.
They're lead by a strong woman that was part of the Hordo Xenos and changed her vision of the universe becoming a buccaneer of the Space and beyond.
I'm planning to use minis from a variety of manufacturer and not only GW (For example the leader will be from Cipher Studio's Anima Tactics range, with conversions and modification of course)
Probably a few of You will look at this decision not fully sold on It, I'm not sure as well on the result yet, but with your imput and suggestions I think We all have a good time.
Plus, It's a great way to celebrate the 1000th post on Dakkadakka
So, here I am presenting You the first crew member of the ship "Volo Solitario" ("Lonely Fly" in Italian)
=][= Duuf “I'Attento” (The Alert) =][=
Does people know what is truly necessary in life?
Do You?
I think I understood that, the moment I met Her mask to face, the moment I stopped being my old self and become what I am.
It was in a dark place, one of those places where the Imperium send us to do their job for them.
She shouldn't go in a place like that, too easy for us to hunt Her down, but I failed to do my job that day and that saved me.
She really saves lives whit Her being what She is. Without even knowing It.
“What are You doing Duuf? We're ready for the Exchange, I need You to take care of us”
“Yes Captain, just getting ready” He stood up and load his gun, put the little piece of paper in the pocket of his trousers, with all the others.
“I'll never leave You and the others go alone, You know that”
The two of them descend the stairs of the “Volo Solitario” together, side by side, like so many times before and who knows for how many time again in the future.
“Alice” He starts, looking Her from behind his mask.
She turns to him with a inquisitive look, so seldom She hear her name from him.
“You should leave this kind of life, You deserve more”
“We talked this over and over Duuf, I can't, too many depends on me now” She takes a deep breath, looks at the reflection of Her in the glass that She's talking to.
“You know what is the only thing that would make that change, If only You would show me your face.. Maybe”
“There is no maybe Captain, there's no face to be seen, let's go to meet the others”
The two are at the end of the long stairs now, They're not any more side by side.
Both of them know that the discussion will represent Itself and both of them know that They can trust each other non the less.
Any thoughts, suggestions, critiques and ideas are more than welcome.

Nice start mate like the little back story as well
Now the mini looks pretty good, however you need to smooth the GS in the hood a little more (sorry I all ways go for the close up ) it's a little bit messy around the inside of the hood smooth it out and it will look much better.
What kind of colour scheme are you thinking of ? will their be a continuos colour scheme throughout the gang ?

Thanks Scrazza, appreciated, It's a totally new take for me from a miniature point of view
LDD: I know that the GS work is a bit harsh
I followed your "private" suggestion of making the mini that I visualized and I think I made I, thanks
The colors will be the ones of a magpie, they're called that way
On the project point of view now.
I need more bits, a lot of them
I collected only Orkz 'till now and that doesn't give me enough "playground".
I have already ordered a Kroot squad (love Kroots, always had )
What other boxes do You think I should get?
Thanks for watching.

Well, I would work out the background of your gang first, how many, races, technical aspects and weapon load out.
Once you have worked out this lot you are virtually set, then it's a case of trial and error with bits.
This should give you an idea of what box sets and pieces you want.

Ok, I've already most of the fluff in mind and a few minis I want to get, I was talking about the stuff that can give the most in usability for a project like this.
I'm already going for a greatswords box for example.
Where I can find a lot of heads that can go well? Where I can get the proper weapons (any weapon, I'm not planning to play this if not with close friends that don't care that much )
Probably looking for only bits, but in Italy are difficult to find and really expensive compared to UK or USA and there I spend a lot in postal charges and arrive too late
Boxes are easier...

Duuf “I'Attento is a really nice conversion. The mask is cool.
The only thing I think that needs work is the GS on the gun stuck...it looks a little puffy. It needs to be squared and given sharp edges.
Looking forward to seeing and reading more from these guys.

As another non- GW model coverter... I salute you!
I like Volo Solitario, a fitting name for a sniper. My one thing would be to try and straighten the barrel on his weapon. Other than that, he looks really good.
Also, kudos on using Italian in the names... they have a very cool "feel" to them!

Thanks PDH and Izanagi, but I have to say one little thing.
Volo Solitario is the name of the Pirate Ship...
I guess I wasn't that clear in writing It and actually is a pretty damn good name for a sniper....

Here the second guy for the ship crew.
Crona Mexy "il Re" (the King)
Backstory will be written shortly, but I was picturing a bodyguard that was coming from a noble family in decadence and He would have been the new head master of It.
A lot of work to do still on him, but I'm looking for the proper cable and the smoothing tools for GS
C&C are always welcome.

Thanks GrimDork.
It's actually a good change of pace between my Orkz and these models.
PDH: It's a SW Termie head I think. It was on a bag of bits my friend gave me some time ago together with the harms and weapon I used.
Edit: Yes is the terminator head from the Space Wolf, this one

Now this is a combination of kits, I see the Cultist commissar, SM power fist obviously the SW head (awesome choice) chaos marine pouch and grenade, now this is where I become lost the right arm I cant really see that clearly from the angle so am unsure.
Also what are the parts on his back from ? I am totally stumped with them and has the head got some kind of wreath around it ?
Overal I think it is turning into an interesting concept, I like the head choice as it gives that war worn edge of insanity look to the mini.
The mix of equipment is good like the addition of the chaos pouches, a relic from a previous victory maybe, will you be adding a cable from the fist to the pack on his back at all ?

Thanks LDD
1) right harm is a Chaos SM one with the arrows and spikes shaved off, plus a plasma pistol I found.
2)the back is the IG Sentinel Plasma Cannon cables and power pack with the cables cut out.
3)Around the head there is a SM Imperial Laurel Crown (memories of his Noble past)
4)The mini was born around the head and the Laurel, loved the way It looked the first time and built the rest to give It a back ground
5)The equipment is just his own stuff, what he bought to survive in the grim-dark future, only the PF is from his past and planning to give It a decent colorscheme.
6)Absolutely yes! A cable will be in place from back pack to PF and probably a little exhaust coming out of It too
Hope to have been helpful on all your questions and curiosities mate

So, got busy to build a new member of the "Gazze Ladre" while I'm painting the Deff Dred.
Former Catachan Jungle fighter, used to smuggle weapons around and then, almost caught, deserted and joined his outlaw friends.
How He finished in the "Volo Solitario" crew will be written soonish

Is it just the angle or perspective, but in the shot from behind the model, the white minigun barrel bit looks a tiny bit flacid and off centre?
Might just be me, but if it's not then give that a bit of a fix before you get painting.
Liking the rest of the project though, looking good so far.

Aw, man, meant to comment here much sooner. Look at you, seems like you're off to an excellent start!
What I like most about the models so far is the fact that the bitz you added makes them look like they assembled the various weapons and doodads they're equipped with during years of their "careers". That adds a nice bit of gritty realism. They also sport a slightly "cobbled-together" look which is very fitting for a bunch of pirates and corsairs.
Very much looking forward to your next update! Subscribed!

Thanks a lot, the grizzled look It's exactly what I wanted to achieve, a former soldier, now mixed with scum. I also sculpted him a big belly invisible in the pics, but is there
The weapon is a minigun and could be used as a heavy stubber I think.

Yes, I wanna paint them too, but I'm now in the process of painting a big scratchbuild Deff for my orkz (competition stuff here on Dakka), after that I'll paint "L'Attento" as a test model.
