Ancient History by Andy chambers.

What in the heck is Kron? He is older than 4 thousand years old by the 1800 years on the ship in Imperial service and then he mentions being on the ship 2 thousand years before when it was part of a hulk.

Also what are the stone and metal men created by humans that fought each other?

The Men of Steel, or Men of Iron as they're more often referred to as were advanced robots created by mankind in the (Dark) Age of Technology. Eventually they turned on mankind in a massive galactic war, ushering in the Age of Strife. This occurred whilst Warp Storms become more frequent and turbulent and psychic activity amongst mankind increased.

Artificial Intelligence has since been banned.

It's a little unclear who the Men of Stone are. Given the apocryphal and mythic nature of the legendary history they're referred to in they're likely allegorical. They most likely represent the beginning of the Mechanicus or humans engineered for colonization.

As for Kron, we don't know what he was. Given his age and powers he's likely some creation of the Mechanicus long ago. He could even be from the Age of Strife, a relic of Dark Age archeotech. 'Kron' is a persona though, his true self seems to lurk in the back of his mind, due to damage or design. Perhaps he was some kind of sleep agent that sustained damage and forgot its mission and history.

Haven't actually read the book you are referring to, but the 3rd edition rulebook did mention a " men of iron" in the history of the imperium section. The guy above me pretty much spelled it out. I just wanted to confirm that what he said was accurate to the best of my knowledge.

He seems to resemble a Luminen, like the other character mentioned in the story. But when challenged about his nature, he says, no not one of those.

Perhaps he is one of the Stone Men, the creators of the Iron Men or he is partly one of the Men of Iron, some how sharing a symbiotic relationship with it's host. Who knows, Kron is certainly interesting.

Here's some links for you that might help you find out about the Men of Stone and Iron.

The later doesn't provide information on the Stone or Iron Men, but it does go into the Age of Strife

As Pilau Rice mentions, I believe Kron is the machine part of a Stone Man. A machine-man pairing, a Cyborg.

Kron's historical tale focuses on the Stone Men. Their being created, their creating Steel Men, their travels, their task, their findings, their estrangement, their war, and their destruction.

Furthermore, Kron is the Bionic Eye, and not the actual man. The man being a Slave and host for the body-controlling-Bionic-Eye, in order to complete the cyborg machine-man pairing. When the Bionic Eye is deactivated, we see the Slave host able to reassert control over his body, he is confused, and he freaks out when he discovers that the Bionic Eye is still attached and simply inactive and that it will reboot and reassert control over him. With the Slave host being old, Kron is preparing the protagonist to be his future host, which is why he befriends him and makes sure he's a clean host, and then fits him with a Bionic Eye.

The protagonist spells out how Kron's current lifestyle would be the perfect cover for someone (like a Stone Man relic of the forbidden past) hiding out. "Disguised among a faceless mass yet always moving from one world to another... Unremarkable, beneath attention and yet guarded by the awesome might of an Imperial warship."

The protagonist even compares Kron to a "stone" gargoyle, "detached itself from the stonework" (abandon his life/role as a Stone Man) "and come down to blaspheme among it." (now mixing with mankind)

There is also the issue of the Mencahicum Luminen Kendrikson possibly trying to incapacitate and capture Kron. Kendrikson being deep undercover and biding his time until "in a position to accomplish <his> mission."
