Hey all.

So, I run chaos daemons primarilly, and my army focuses on 12inch movement, with a balance between melee, and range.

I use a ton of flamers, enough to overwhelm an opponent, so that lots of unit's will be weakened before I can assault them with stuff that also moves 12 inches.

As such, I really wanted some fast moving anti tank, so I got myself a maulerfiend, and I adore it. I refused point blank to get a heldrake, as I would just feel dirty allying one of those in.

But this then gives me the choice of HQ. Obviously I just take 10 cultists for troops, but I wanted to make a choice of HQ, and i'm having difficulty choosing.

My choices are

Nurgle biker lord, with the black mace, supported by some nurgle spawn. This to me, is very resillient, and quite killy against the right unit's, and can even hold its own against scarier threats due to the black mace having fleshbane, and causing toughness tests much of the time, even at only AP4, I generally get at least one wound on even terminators with it.

The other option is a nurgle daemon prince with the black mace, wings, and power armour. This, get's pricey, and feels to me like a gamble with only 4 wounds. The allies I have are meant to be cheap, so I don't go for the huge points upgrade for psychic powers, on the hope that I get iron arm. It just seems very difficult for me to justify more points than my bloodthirster, for a 4 wound model. It's certainly killy if it gets there, but it's a big if.

So, which should I go for, or is there another option i'm missing? (Please don't say heldrake, i'm not getting one xD )

Can I rudely ask something? Do you tend to go on a more monstermash route or something else?

Not rude at all No, I don't monstermash, there is too many interesting models in daemons to just bring 5 main models or so

Your nurgle bike lord would be great and it's cheap which is what I see you want. The prince (at least every time I've used mine) is such a huge gamble that you never know what you're going to get. One bad daemon weapon roll and that 300+ point model you have is GONE. Mine charged some deathwing termis rolls a 1 goes to weapon skill 1 and I instantly lose that combat. I think your nurgle lord is a cheap enough ally and having spawns makes him so incrdible and tough that even if they shoot a ton of shots into that unit you're going to get your main force in with no problems. You could also give the daemon prince the mark of tzeentch and then you have a chance with a roll of 1 and then you pass with everything 3+ and he's flying. It's a super killy unit which is good and bad, most of the time you'll win combat in YOUR phase and then he's free to get shot to pieces in his turn =/

Hrmmm.... considering you say 12".... that sounds like beasts and cavalry and ranged implies some sort of pink horror squad perhaps? Maybe a skull cannon as well..... Wanted to ask if you went moster mash because if you did I would have picked for the flying dp but if not having a single flying unit that can move that far is a blatant *shoot me* target.

Personally, out of the two options I would go for the Nurgle Biker Lord with a chaos Spawn guard. It is cheap and will keep with the rest of your army. As you likely know from the daemon codex, daemon princes tend to only be good when you put about 100 points extra into them making them a pricey model that only has a toughness of 5. It's also a smaller target that can easily get behind cover when needed. With that fast of an army, a maulerfiend will fit in just fine. For troops are you planning on bringing in a small pack of plague marines or cultists? Cultists are cheaper but there is something absolutely lovely about 2 plasma guns in a pack of 5 plagies that are toughness 5 and even if they get hot, they will very rarely kill them self! Get a heldra- (I personally prefer bikers and spawn over the drake anyways). In all honesty, I think the biker and spawn will do just fine in your army list (and fast nurgle wooooo )
