One of the dudes at my FLGS is considering starting Fantasy, but before he jumps in he wants to watch some games go down to get a feel for the system, and how the different units interplay. As a result, a few of the local fantasy players and I have been throwing together some 1250 point lists and next week we will play some quick games and possibly a 2v2 good vs evil if we have time. We will probably have the interested player choose which army he likes the look of most, and have the owner of that army serve as an advisor and guide. The 4 Armies we will have are Ogres, Bretonnia, Empire, and Beastmen. So a lot of Humies.
In the spirit of it, I'm trying to put together a list that really emphasizes Bretonnia's speed and heroes, as well as forcing peasants to fling pieces of their own homes at the enemy. Anyway here is the list
(230) Prophetess- lvl 3, Lore of Heavens, Warhorse, Dispel Scroll
(136) Paladin- General, Barded Warhorse, Questing Vow, Great Weapon, Dragon Helm, Insignia of the Quest, Gauntlet of the Duel
(119) Paladin- BSB, Barded Warhorse, Sword of Might, Armour of Agilulf
(226) 8 Knights of the Ream- Full Command, Banner of Chalons
(196) 8 Knights Errant- Full Command, Banner of Dicipline
(165) 3 Pegasus Knights
(87) 5 Mounted Yeomen- Shields, Musician
(90) Trebuchet
Total: 1249
I personally really enjoy the Mounted Yeomen, but my brain is telling me that I would be better off swapping them out. 10 Peasant Archers with Braizers would save me enough points for the Warbanner for my KotR, and a Luckstone on the BSB. But the Fast Cav rules are just so much fun, and feigned flight combos so well with peasants duty, it would be a shame to replace them with boring Peasant Archers.
Any thoughts on making a balanced low point list that really empahsizes the muster of Bretonnia?

I think knights errant should take the errantry banner or be replaced. If replaced, you can get your archers, upgrade your existing stuff, and get another small unit or knights or increase the size of your KotR

Yea, I somewhat like using the Errant as a discount set of Knights of the Realm, I have even started using them as a general bunker, and using the Banner of Dicipline for projecting leadership 9 or 10. That said, I haven't had impetuous bite me in the butt yet, but it is a valid concern. If I keep my BSB nearby however i am pretty certain to supress any suicide charges. Weapon Skill 4 is nice, but so is immune to psychology on the charge, although that is less noticable when you are putting a BoD general in the unit. If I were to run the Errantry banner for that sweet sweet s6 would you advice putting the second Paladin with them for a bit more killing power, obviously making the prophetess the general and having her hang out with the more reliable KotR? I suppose I can deploy the Errants very last to help them get a good target to charge. Anyway the slightly modified list. (230) Prophetess- General, Level 3, Lore of Heavens, Pony, Dispel Scroll (119) Paladin- BSB, Pony w/ Tablecloth, Sword of Might, Armour of Agilulf (126) Paladin- Pony w/ Tablecloth, Questing Vow, Great Weapon, Dragon Helm, Insignia of the Quest (231) 8 Knights of the Realm- Full Command, Banner of Dicipline (201) 8 Knights Errant- Full Command, Errantry Banner (165) 3 Pegasus Knights (87) 5 Mounted Yeomen- Shields, Musician (90) Trebuchet I do still miss the Gauntlet of the Duel, which I think is a really cool item. Anyway, I am really curious about Lore of Heavens, but should I just stick with beasts in this case? For Wild Form and Hero Flip outs?

So I was screwing around with some point totals the other day, and came up with a pretty much all Peasant list. Right now I am torn on which I would prefer to run, so I will let you guys let me know which you think would be more fun to play against (218) Bretonnian Lord- Questing Vow, Great Weapon, Virtue of Empathy, Armour of Silvered Steel, Ruby Goblet, Dragonbane Gem (124) Paladin- BSB, Barded Warhorse, Sword of Might, Armour of Agilulf, Luckstone (130) Damsel- lvl 2, Lore of Beasts, Prayer Icon (241) 8 Knights of the Realm- Full Command, War Banner (227) 40 Men at Arms- Full Command (65) 10 Peasant Archers- Braizers (65) 10 Peasant Archers- Braizers (87) 5 Mounted Yeomen- Shields, Musician (90) Trebuchet Gogo Peasant Army. I think its a pretty fun build, and Ruby Goblet + Prayer Icon on the Men at Arms makes them crazy tanky. Lore of beasts just further empahsizes their scaryness factor. A bit too death star like for my tastes, although at 1250 points a deathstar of Men at Arms of all things might actually be viable. Also small folk are fun.

The Armour of silvered steel is a waste, if you take a DragonHelm, you have the same save and a 2++ vs flaming for 35 less points
Even better with the Gromril Helm to reroll that 2+

I like the 2nd army better, but think the 1st list is more typical of bretonnians. On your 2nd list, I'd make one unit of archers skirmishers. And I'd only give one unit braizers. That way you can shoot at flame pheonixes or dragon princes or dragonbane gem chars without activating their 2+ ward vs flaming. Not that you expect to do much to those units with arrows...

Without the Steed, the best he can muster is a 3+ with some sort of shield, which I cannot use with a great weapon, so would have to find additional points for a magic weapon. What about this? Bretonnian lord- Shield, Virtue of Empathy, Morning Star of Fracasse, Gromril Great Helm, Ruby Goblet, Dragon Gem That gives him a 3+ save with a re-roll instead of a 2+, and the Flail instead of the Great Weapon lets him keep his initiative and troll enemy characters at the expense of later rounds of combat. I'll have to mess around with it as there may be more merit to the second build. I am using this reaper model as my Foot Lord since the GW Knights on foot are pretty aweful, so the Great Weapon build just felt more natural. He has a very Eddard Stark look to his pose, which I like. _____________________________________________ In other news, I ended up running the Peasant list, and played against Empire for some hot humie on humie action. My friend actually ran a very similar list to me, with a block of 10 knights, 35 Great Swords, Outriders, Captain BSB, and a level 4 of light. It was a pretty fun game, I think I had the advantage going in since my Men at Arms horde had the upper hand against his Great Swords (due to the ruby goblet forcing him to wound on 3s, and the blessing giving me a 5++ vs his attacks) for considerably fewer points, and I also had a big shooting advantage (which felt wierd against Empire), but he absolutely overpowered me in Magic. My Trebuchet had laser accuracy this game, but ultimately my friend won due to escaping with the tattered remains of his Great Swords and his 2 expensive characters contained inside. I needed to catch them with my Men at Arms to get their victory points. I also forgot I had the Warbanner at a very crucial moment, causing my knights to lose combat by 1 (unfortunate failed over charge then getting charged by the Great Swords!), and then failing my Break Test despite the BSB, which allowed the Great Swords to pursue them, and pull them outside of the Men at Arms charge arc. OUCH! Of course had I remembered the Warbanner, combat would have drawn, and I could have piled the Men at Arms into the flank of the Great Swords for a decisive blow. I really should play more Fantasy, we both found it very refreshing in comparison to 40K. it felt wierd actually caring about close combat, movement, and leadership... huh.
