Having a hard time deciding on if I should take a Farseer with no upgrades or a Spiritseer with Faolchu's wings (for last turn objective grabbing). I only have 100pts left for my Allied HQ for my Tau force for a tourney tomorrow.

Well, how does the ally detachment look like?

For 30 points more you get the following:

- 1 extra mastery level and warp charge
- leadership 10 instead of 9
- arguably better psychic powers, and 3 of them ofcourse
- a ghosthelm, the only thing that can save you from perils
- the option of taking a jetbike should you have points left

I'm sure there's more, but this is what I could think of straight away.

I'd go with the farseer, because while the Spiritseer has much better powers you wont want to be rolling for either. Spiritseer powers like to help in combat and the only real AMAZING power usage I could see a concealed blob of fire warriors behind a defence line. While with the farseer you would roll 2 on divination and 1 on Runes of Fate for what amounts to double guide. guide + prescience work together plus any extra you get in divination to really help the tau not be tooo reliant on marker lights.

If you're running Wraithguard of any kind, the Spiritseer is really handy, and generally the runes of battle powers boost the squad he joins.

A Farseer can affect an entire army, depending on ally level.

As also said by Daba, if you run a WG army, then a Spiritseer is the way to go. She could join a WG unit in a Serpent.
A Farseer is better mounted on a jetbike to make maximal use of her psychic powers.

Yeah, in a general sense, the Farseer offers more and better buffs, and has great mobility with a jetbike. Runes of Fate generally does more for your force than Runes of Battle, which often has quite limited effects. Divination is also gold, and Telepathy is great too, although the Spiritseer shares Telepathy.

That said, I'm currently taking a Spiritseer in my Eldar Allies, but that's because I'm taking Eldar for Wraithguard troops in Wave Serpents. Especially for things like being DE allies, the presence of hardy troops and transports is a really interesting prospect, quite different than Farseer buffs and Guardian Jetbikes/Seer Council Shenanigans.

Keep in mind the Spiritseer still makes WG and WBs troops, even in allied detachments.

Cant you also run a 5 man council of spirit seers?

Quote from chromedog
and 40k was like McDonalds - you could get it anywhere - it wouldn't necessarily satisfy, but it was probably better than nothing.

Yes, if you take an Iyanden force. But then you'd lose the best Spiritseer power, Conceal/Reveal.

I believe I'll be running a Farseer. 2 twin links plus some other fun per turn is way too awesome for Tau to pass up, in my opinion. I'd only use the Shadowseer if I was going to invest heavily in Wraithguard.

Or you want a counter-strike unit in your ally detachment: 5 Wraithguard with D scythes form a decent unit.
