Sorry if its been asked already but here goes:

monofilament rule says any roll of a 6 counts as ap 1.

Now if i was to target a vehicle (initiative 0) its str 8 as per the rule, if i was to roll a 6 against the vehicle would any penertrating hit (say aV13 tank was targeted) be AP1 for the sake of damage table?

No- only on a To Wound roll of 6 is the shot AP1.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That's a good question. While it's being asked, I wonder the same thing for that one Daemon reward that doubles strength on to hit rolls of 6.
I'd say you can roll to hit, but 1s are still successes, but RAW you don't roll to hit so you can't get the bonus.

They need to FAQ this, but as it stands, no.

the 6, according to the codex, happens on a roll "To Wound" whereas against a vehicle, you're rolling "To Penetrate" (Giggity), so they're different. Somehow.

While penetrating hits and wounds are occasionally equated, when a rule specifies To Wound roll then there is no ambiguity. Rending is the perfect example - if you roll a 6 on a To Wound roll do this. If you roll a 6 on an Armour Penetration roll do that.

While I agree to a certain degree, and yes I feel like some things working certain ways on flesh v. vehicles is justified, it doesn't quite make sense to me in other fashions.

a 6 to get AP2 on bladestorm, for example, I visualize as a volley of sharp monomolecular discs slicing through an exposed joint, neck gap, etc. I don't see why that couldn't apply to vehicles as well, with a 6 to penetrate slicing a fuel line, a volatile chemical mixture under pressure, coolant line, etc.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
a str 7 ap1 shot seems not hugely overpowered against a vehicle imo

Well it would represent the monofiliment wires flying around inside. What is the point of AP 1 vs non armor targets? Why not make it ap2?

As it stands only wounds but i am hoping for a faq

The new Space Pope has a rule that AP1 vs 2 matters for.

I keep forgetting about that special rule...

I play it that it only applys against infantry based on the wording. However its the AP1 that got me thinking about it because if its not effective against armour why be AP1 instead of AP2 like bladestorm?

Some special rules out there have clauses depending on the AP of the weapon used, and these rules can be found on infantry units. The most noticeable is on a Tau independent character that people have dubbed 'the new space pope.' This special rule has a lot of elements, but one of them is making this character completely immune from AP 1 weapons. Even though explaining the joke sort of ruins it, take a look through the codex and you will immediately identify the one they call 'the new space pope.'

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Monofilament gives AP1 for the sake of the spinneret rifle, which is already AP1. Otherwise the Spinneret rifle would be downgraded to AP2 every time you roll a 6.
