Subject: Range of Shadow in the Warp parallel to Synapse

This thought stemmed from what i thought should be an actual rule and i just wonder what other peoples thoughts might be on it. So we all know that SITW is caused because of the synaptic link and connections of the hive mind. So wouldn't it be reasonable to suggest that if a creature such as the Swarmlord has a synapse range of 18" then it should have a SITW range of 18" as well? I've had some feed back already on this from a friend but was wondering what anyone else thought

It would make sense for something with a stronger synaptic link to have a greater SiTW range. Eh, that's GW for you, never expect the fluff to match the rules of the game, when it does it's a happy coincidence.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

If you're talking about fluff sense, Shadow in the Warp should be covering the entire board already. It's just tied to psychic Tyranids as a gameplay mechanic. If you're arguing the synaptic link angle, Tyranid Warriors should be causing it too, despite not being psychic, they're still synapse. Same with Trygon Primes and Shrikes.

Now that Runes of Warding are gone, I think we can all agree that board-wide psychic defence is something we never want to see again.

Which they do, in fact every single Synapse creature has Shadow in the Warp, as does every Tyranid psyker (though the only non-Synapse psyker in the codex is the Doom of Malan'tai)

Haha, wow. My Warriors have spent so long in the back line doing nothing I completely forgot they had it. I wasn't arguing against extending the range of creatures that have longer than usual synapse with 'table wide', I'm just saying, if you're arguing from a fluff standpoint, it should be table wide. In the fluff it's not synapse creatures that cause it, it's simply a blanket psychic signature everywhere there's Tyranids. It's just tied to synapse creatures as a gameplay mechanic. 'Matching fluff to rules', as you put it, would be doing what you say no one wants.

Well also if you were matching fluff to rules then a pyrovore might actually be useful

... and you'd only need 10 SM to stop a 5k points Tyranid army.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

and a 5k Tyranid army would populate the tables of a small town.

Another though i had was that synapse could be linked. So if you had a group of warriors on one part of the board and a tyrant on another, no matter the distance, they would create a line between them of synapse and SITW. it wouldn't be a huge leg up but with enough synapse creatures it could create a bit of a headache for the enemy.
I don't think this would ever fly though
