There are no general rules for flying. Flight is an ability that is usually listed on the model's card.
IIRC all it does is allow you to move over intervening models and terrain. However, it does not make you immune to free strikes.

Yep, that's exactly right.

Flight: This model may advance through terrain and obstacles without penalty, and can advance through obstructions and other models if it has enough movement to move completely past them. This model ignores intervening models when declaring it's charge target.
