Ok guys, I am stuck. 18 months ago I got a forge world ork fighta bommer. It came with a flying base. Which doesn't fit, which can't be attached to the model. Thanks forge world, that's really helpful.
So, my question is this. How have people out there built flying bases? I have drilled a hole, and fitted a piece of brass rod. But how do you weight the base so it doesn't topple?
Argh, very annoyed, expensive model, and can't work out how to use it on the table!

I think that ork flier predates the flying stand thing. Back in the day, NO FW flier came with a stand. Thunderbolt, lightning, valkyrie, nightwing, etc. Players here use Secret Weapon miniatures flying stand widgets. They are cheap enough and do the job well. Comes with a length of 1/2" acrylic rod (5") too. Can be drilled into and a screw used to mount the rod to a base (the widget goes on the model) OR you could use some other method to secure it to the base. I use real rocks for ballast on bases for heavy things. It seems to do the job - and you can paint them as well, so they look like the rest of the painted rocks.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I contacted FW a couple of months back about their flying stands, you don't get the plastic widget to mount to older Flyers which don't have the cross-shape notch for the stand. You could cut such a notch yourself or it might just be easier to make your own from brass rod and some scenic materials such as rocks or ruins.

I did when I bought the Nightwing late last year. Didn't use it mind, but I got it. Instead I drilled two holes into the bottom of the Flyer and essentially pinned it in place with 2.1mm diameter Aluminium tubing. It's not perfect, and I'm going to need to find a better way to support it so that it isn't tipping to the left or right. Probably little foam pads stuck to the flying stand, as it has to be able to move with the whole swing-wing thing. For an Ork flyer you could probably get away with a magnet in the centre and then pins at each of the four extremities of the cross.

Drill four holes through the hull then carefully cut between then to form a + - if the size is just right the stand will wedge in place as it's tapered. You might not even have to glue it making transport between games that much easier.
Failing that order the valkery plastic nub from a bits site & glue that to the hull instead - eg here:
