Does the grot gunner of the blitza bimber have te ability to shoot at another target? An ork player stated this today and i was unsure if this is true.

No. Grot gunner gives the weapon it belongs to a BS boost. Nothing else.

And given the way it mounts on the plane the odds of you having a target it will have LOS on are pretty low also, unless you play in a Cityfight Manhattan board or are flying upside down..

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Yeah, the Ork player you were playing against is wrong. The grot does not have any special rule stating it is allowed to shoot at something else different than the vehicle itself. The bomber in the 'movement phase' is allowed to bomb one thing and then all weapons shoot at some thing else in the shooting phase because the bomb is resolved in the movement phase.

You know, I can see an Ork player (myself perhaps, if i had a plane) cutting a mounting hole into the top so that the plane could do barrel rolls

Christ, where do you buy your turnips?

Bah - put grot gun on bottom side of plane, make him shoot at things other than birds.

And seriously, orks WOULD mount the grot gun cockpit under a plane for that reason too :-)
