Hey all,
After several years in the hobby, my brother has become interested in what I'm spending all my time on. We're big on co op games, and I love the idea of playing with my brother in 40k.
Here's the problem. I'm a loyal son of the Emprah (I play Guard and SM), and naturally, the two factions my brother would like to play are Tyranids or Chaos Demons, which don't mesh too well given the Allies chart.
Do doubles matches follow the Allies chart? Or not?
All I've been able to find is a modified allies chart for some WH tourney that came out before 6th ed, so...
Thanks.

Since there are no official rules for team matches, the allies matrix doesn't really have any impact at all. Besides, if your brother is playing Chaos Daemons, its sooo easy to explain it from a fluff perspective. Either the forces of the Emprah are turning traitor, or a greater daemon has cast a spell on the loyal warriors of Terra making them think they are nothing more than brother guardsman.

If you are playing friendly, you can do what you like. Sure, it's unfluffy, but you are playing for fun, you can do what you like
Granted, I would run them as 2 separate armies on the same team, rather than as one big army, as say, using a space marine librarian to buff a daemon, would be a bit off. But hey, as long as it's not like, an official tournament game or whatever, go for it, they are your models, and if your opponent's are cool with it, which 99% of folks will be for friendly games, there is no issue

Clearly this is a case of two brothers that were both generals of the emperor. When one turned traitor and the other stayed loyal they started chasing eachother across the galaxies, but they will accept no help or tolerate any interference in their quest to show themselves the stronger brother. Fir this purpose they chase off other armies come along to interfere together.
After every game you win, as soon as the game ends, have the people you were facing pack their stuff up (they all ran off) then immediately start a new turn where you turn on eachother. It would be so awesome when you are both holding back to save troops for the inevitable clash.
(Ps the allies matrix is not for co-op games. It may play a part in the rare co-op tournaments, but won't in friendly games. Most people just play co-op frindlies like two armies that fight side by side but are neutral to eachother. Can't buff eachother and are for all intents and purposes two seperate armies that just happen to be on the same side of the table.)

As others have said, the BRB is a two player game. It does not include routes for doubles play.
I would look at using either the Apocalypse ruleset, or there is a tournament held at Warhammer World called 'Battle Brothers' which might suit your needs - the rules pack is available on the GW website, under the Warhammer World Events section.

The general way my group plays team games is each person has their own army (including Warlord) and your teammate's army is treated as Allies of Convenience, regardless of the Allies Matrix. I've had games where it was Necrons and Eldar vs Chaos Daemons and Eldar. We are still trying to justify the team-up..

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Its easy to justify most Eldar team-ups, just say that one farseer or the other is tugging on the weave of fate to ensure a particular result, much like Eldrad did when he diverted Ghazkhull to attack Armageddon. So just say the Eldar on one side were ensuring the forces of Chaos defeated their ancient enemy to deny them another tomb world, while the other saw Chaos as the greater evil.

I agree it should be no problem at all. Double-team matches aren't in the BRB to begin with, and I see no reason to disallow any combinations. Double-team of Marines and Daemons? Why not
