Subject: Dark Angel's Anti-Tank / Anti-Air
|
 |
Revving Ravenwing Biker

I have a good amount of deathwing (35+ terminators, 2 dreads easily over 2.2k points) and a decent amount of tacticals (40+) and I am looking to add onto my dark angels .... my main problem so far with opponents is my lack of anti-tank / anti-air. With my local scene there are a few ork players with dakka jets and a de player who runs vemon spam with a flier. I would prefer to stay away from forgeworld products ... although the mortis dread would be amazing.
With Deathwing I normally run 2 plasma cannons & 2-3 cyclone missile launchers up to 1500 points, up to 2k I add in 2 assault cannons (and chain fists on the ac squads), the two dreadnoughts are MM / DCCW with HF both in Drop Pods.
With my tactical setup I am still trying to make up my mind if I want to mech up with rhinos or razorbacks, or run 3 land raider crusaders with a command squad dakk banner / x2 melta gun & MM tactical squads (1 land raider crusader that I already have for the command squad) - I know I want to run something using the dakka banner but I cannot make up my mind on what setup I am looking to run.
I would also prefer not to add in any ravenwing at this time ... I plan to put together a 1500 point ravenwing force, but until I can get the majority of it I plan on focusing on the tactical setup or adding in more flexibility for the deathwing setup.
What I have been think about doing is either
1. Ally In. primarius pysker, 10 veterans, 3 melta guns, demo charge, vendetta gunship - maybe marbo? This setup comes out to 330 (before marbo) and gives me a somewhat cheap way to deal with anti-tank and anti-air
2. Mech up the Tacticals. Run the command squad in the land raider crusader then take 2 razorbacks with TL lascannons, combat 2 of the tactical squads (take lascannons or missile launchers with flakk on the backfield combat squads), add in 2 predators (autocannon & lascannon sponsors) I could go full msu with the razorbacks, given banner makes bolter salvo the lower unit size would still pack a punch - allows me to mech up the tacticals, add in lots of lascannons or missile launchers for anti-tank / air
3. ADL + something ... I've heard from alot of posts that if your opponents run fliers just 1 ADL isnt going to do much.
At the moment I am stuck and looking for pros and cons ... buying the ally option would cost less than $100 also, where on the other hand razorbacks / rhinos / predators can get expensive fast (but after they are mech'd they do become alot more viable to use)
Possbile Matchups - Dark Eldar (venom spam), Tau, Eldar, Orcs, Nids, Blood Angels
Any Help?
Thanks

If you want Anti-air, there's always the forgeworld option of a mortis dreadnought which gets skyfire and interceptor as long as it stands still.
Stock up on lascannons or autocannons and blast suckers down.

Ya the forgeworld would be great ... but I would rather steer away from FW and stay within codex range.

There is the Nephilim, but it is quite frankly, a strong contender for the worst unit in all of 6e.

If you like paying an inordinate amount for a few more S7 shots, sure.

What are your thoughts on allying in?
At this point I may just go MSU tacticals in razorbacks with TLL and a command squad in a LRC and ignore fliers ... all of the AA and AT options seem really lack luster from the codex.

Vendettas can help clear those skies for you. And you can even unlock the now infamous Azrael invincible guard blob.

I've even got a DV Company master that could be used as a stand in azzy .... 50 man blob, psyker, vendetta, and 20 terminators around 1500 points could be interesting too.

Sit on an objective and be prepared for people to be quite cross with you.

TL LC & TL AC on a Venerable Dreadnaught?
I've not played this and am a very inexperienced player but was advised by another DW player that this would be a good AA option for my Deathwing...

Unless Ven Dreads have some special rule I don't know about, paying for that +1 BS on Vens isn't worth it if you want an AA vehicle. A regular old dread will kill fliers about as well since they're both snapfiring anyway.
Now against ground targets, our Vens are dirt cheap and get a bonus against those pesky CSMs...hmmm...

I had a really fun game the other week, where I ran 2 Ven Dreads, 1 with 2 TL Auto Cannons, the other with TL Lascannon + Missile Launcher. Had a techmarine behind them, with a PFG and Servo Harness. Those dreads were near unkillable and brought down a ton of units. Very expensive on points, and probably not worth it for your average game, but it was fun for sure, and deadly. I, and the people I play with, aren't extremely hardcore or competitive players, mostly just screwing around for fun.

Both of my dreads have the arms magnetized ... I could pick up some other options off of ebay. Anyone know what the prefered setup for tank hunting is TLL & ML or AC & TLAC ? Automatically Appended Next Post: Honestly from what I have seen from the codex Dedicated Anti-Tank Ravenwing - Not Planning on Using Dreads - Lascannon & Missile Launcher, x2 AC - Seems Ok & Cheap .... in a little with very little other mech I feel like they would be taken out fairly easily, although not too difficult to get a cover save with Predators - AC & LC Sponsors - Same as Dreads Vindicators - 24" range ... against tau or de they will not get a shot off (against orc hordes its just cruel) and cannot touch flyers. Land Speeders - TML & HB / MM & HF - TML is good for the long range .... both variants are paper thin Land Speeder Vengeance - paper and a heavy slot Flyers - me So really it falls down to dreads or preds ... unless I want to run a good number of ravenwing or ally in IG (there might be other ally options ... but fluff wise DA would most likely not ally with anyone outside IG, Space Marines & Variants, or Grey Knights)

A Vanilla Librarian with some of your termies wouldn't be a bad thing. Then take a Stormraven and/or Stormtalon. TL LC Razor with a cheap squad. That could work.
