Cultist of Nurgle with Open Sores
|
It has been almost a year since Sapphon, Herald of Blight, Circulator of Infection, Right Toe of Nurgle started his personal crusade in hope to bring death and decay to the Imperium. But it did not go as he intended...
Turns out, even Father Nurgle likes to play jokes with his minions sometimes. A strange disease hit Preachers of Blight, a disease so terrible, that even mighty plague marines could not resist it. The name of this plague is... elitism. So overconfident became plague marines after first couple of victories, that soon each one was thinking of himself as a unique and beautiful snowflake and stooped carrying out most basic of orders, such as feeding nurglings or painting new layers of rust on rhinos. In Imperial Guard they usually solve this problem with public decimations, but Sapphon could not afford such measures, for his forces were not large in numbers to sacrifice even one marine.
Help came from where no one expected - Lothar, a former Death Shroud terminator, now a potent sorcerer, joined Sapphon, and so badass was he, that fairly soon everyone knew his place once again. Moreover, Lothar brought some friends - a squad of plague marines clad in terminator armor and an ancient daemon engine Ppyn'Nhlarfolcogffg'Gaochlliigrllkrl, which corrosive breath eats both flesh and metal.
So here they are, in all their rotten glory:
And a shot of the whole warband so far (click at your own risk, it is rather heavy):
Enjoy! Constructive criticism is as always apreciated.

Ten Nurgle Terminators, holy god. Just awesome.
I don't play myself but is a squad like that kill-able?

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers. |

I'm not normally much of a fan of nurgle, but you've done these so well.
In particular I'm a fan of the white OSL off the plasma guns and your helldrake is, dare i say it, tasteful... Hardly the comment I expect to give for a minion of the lord of decay

I'm really struck by the use of the GK bitz to make nurgle theme termies. Very unexpected but also thematic

I'm not typically a fan of Nurgle armies. Generally they look either too comic-bookish or too muddy for my tastes, but that Helldrake is great! It's the most organic looking Helldrake I've seen thus far.

TseGuevara could you talk a little bit about how you did the talons? its looking like some dark metallics with a combination of rust effect and what almost looks like gunsmith's bluing, and I'd really love to know how you achieved it.

Oh, the weathering...
First of all, I do paint chipping with vallejo hull red, applying it with sponge. Why hull red and not metal? Well, if the owner of wehicle in question is lazy enough not to re-paint his ride after every major campaign, we can safely assume that he will be lazy enough not to re-paint it at all, so all the exposed metal will actually corrode. The only chipping that will not corrode is one where the priming is not damaged. And as I recall, the most widely used undercoats for metal are of red or brown colors.
After applying all colors, i give the model a good wash of highly diluted mixture of lamp black and orange cadmium. Cant tell exact proportions cause there are none - used something like 3:1 black : orange for old stuff and almost 1:1 for new. Also, in the case of rhinos I did not dilute wash well enough, so I had to remove the excess with some pure solvent. This can be even beneficial for tanks, as they have large flat surfaces which are easy to clean, at the same time allowing to make dark areas more black and oily (perforation on exhausts for example), but it will not look good on models like drake or fiends, which have lots of details, so you need to dilute wash more. This is also where bluing effect comes from, as the surface of talons is not exactly smooth, and some wash will stay on them.
The next step is using pigments. For infantry models I just lazily dilute some rusty pigment in mat medium and painte over metal parts (blades, guns, etc). For metal parts of heldrake (talons, joints, cables, brass) I lightly "drybrush" some pigment. The painted armor areas are done in a more complex way: I put a rather thick layer of dark rust pigment (do not "press" pigment into surface with brush, it should have visible texture) anf fix it with pigment fixer. Then do another layer of light rust. Repeat until you are not satisfied or run out of rust colors, You can also add some diluted black or dark-grey paint over pigments (you can see this on rhinos).
If I recall correctly, MIG productions has a dvd tutorial featuring exactly this technique.
That's it, basically. Just don't forget to apply gloss varnish to your model before using oil washes!
(Wow, did not expect to make such a wall of text)

These are really sweet models, the rust effect is so perfect, it doesn't compete with the other colors, very nice balance between weathering effects and general colors. These things are hideous! I love it!
