I'm actually kinda curious. How often do you guys report posts on Dakka? I've recently started to feel more of an urge to be a better community member and have been reporting threads for inflammatory comments, off-topics, etc. That being said, I'm starting to get a little worried I'm reporting a little too much and don't want the mods to hate me.

Pretty much this. If someone starts to get a little Alert-happy, we'll usually send them a message to lay off a little. If you're reporting things that legitimately warrant attention, though, that's always good, even if you don't necessarily see an immediate response.

This makes me feel better. I don't report very often, but sometimes I'll report something that I'm not sure if it's breaking any rules due to it being rather ambiguous.

I report spambots, topics in the wrong forum, and after having gotten a warning and temporary "quick reply" vacation for calling somebody out for being a colossal douche, I'll report total douches too, who have no content to post other than needlessly insulting other posters.

I rarely report.

I only report spambots. I don't see much else here that warrants censure once you get your head round the fact that the person that just posted some daft gak is probably only 12 - I only wish I had that excuse!

I'll report spambots as soon as I see them

and occasionally if s thread I'm interested in ends up boiling over I'll report to ask a MOD to pop in and ask folk to cool down etc (but it tend to need lots of back and forth bitching/name calling to get me to do so)

Off topics posts don't bother me (unless they cause the problem above)

I report spambots and anything that's clearly not okay (the latter has happened maybe twice).

Ditto. I always wonder if there's a lot of eye rolling at my alerts.

Same. I once reported MajorTom for going off-topic with his own Mod stuff.

I really only report people trying to get past the word filter. Seriously, it's there for a reason.

I probably report a few posts a week, for different reasons.

Most common:

1) Spam
2) Duplicate threads

Less common:

1) Word filter
2) Rule 1
3) Thread Necro

It's true. I have gotten a message from Insaniak for doing just that.

In terms of reporting things? Most of what I report is the spambots or things I think are off-topic/spammy in background threads.

The only things I've ever really reported are spam, and threads being in the wrong forum. For a while I was a major nazi about the Tutorials forum. Also Discussions, as 40k crap pops up in there all the time.

I don't report and I don't think I'll ever report. Seems kinda sad to me , if you don't like something someone has said , take it up with them or pm them or just think "douche" and move on. First rule in kindergarten is don't dob and this place is alot like kindergarten. Kindergarten is also alot of fun .

I don't remember reporting anything other than a spambot... but then again I did ring my bell pretty hard on saturday so I could be wrong.

I will even report borderline stuff. The mods can figure out if it crossed a line or not. I'm just asking them to glance at it by clicking report.

My day just isn't the same without reporting every post I see.

99% of the time I'm WAY too late to the party. But surely it's not just me... anyone find themselves opening the locked threads because, like a train wreck, you know it's all gone wrong but you can't help but look...?

Even if I never touched the thread, I almost always look at a locked thread, just to see what finally made it jump the tracks.

As to the original question, I probably report a post every day or so. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I'm pretty quick to drop an alert if I think someone is being a dick, and I may throw out an alert if something is in the wrong forum.

I think it's important to alert the mods when someone is being rude or trying to start fights. Although they usually get away with it, it's important just to have attention called to it. As I understand it, there has been at least one user banned just for consistent douchey behavior. And since I can think of a few others that I would like to see join him in exile, I think it's important to have a history of their behavior on record.

I don't report allot, but I do report:

Spambots
Use of racist/homophobic/disability phobic/sexist language
Trying to get round the swear filter
Trolling
Where I can see a thread is going way off topic in a bad way (Especially religion & politics as they both have the ability of going very very wrong.)

I tend to save it mostly for bot hunting.

But if there's the ocassional troll thread that's really obvious and really bad, I report it to put it out of its misery.

Very rarely, only if it's really bad. I've reported several of my own for posting them in the wrong place.

I see that a lot of people have said they always report spambots....but after the years I've been on here, I've never witnessed one. And I'm online all day when I'm at work. Is it really that big of an issue on Dakka Dakka, or is that referring to reporting problems on forums in general?

I see maybe 1 or 2 a day but they go very fast as the Mods are efficient so it's not a major problem

some forums I've use/still use with less efficient moderation can have trouble with them, especially when they're relevant to the type of forum

(eg the kitchen design spam earlier today clearly didn't fit in Dakka so nobody would have used the site it plugged, but a spam link to a 'fake' site selling, say, discounted X-wing or 40K stuff might end up costing some folk cash or setting them up for identity theft)
