Just played 30k using the FW Rules.



Got to share this awesome tactic my Opponent used on me. The terminology might be off but it was such a fun tactic I wet myself laughing at how brutal it was.

It was my Iron Hands versus his Emperors Children.

I blew the crap out of his Landraider and a Single model leapt out of the Wreck.

It was a HQ choice, I think it was an Moritat or something.

Anyway he had twin Plasma Pistols. (some of you can see where this is going).

Anyway using the Chain attack rule, he was able at BS 5 to hit on 2+, with every hit allowing you to fire again, and again until you roll a 1 (obviously a Get's Hot). It's AP means Marines die without an Invulnerable.

He managed to shoot 15 men dead in a 20 men Tactical Squad. John Woo style. All I could is laugh and Applaud !! "WELL PLAYED SIR, Well Played!"

Yeah, Moritats with plasma pistols are funny like that. Prescience on them is just beyond the pale. Then they're more limited by the number of models in the unit they're shooting at than any shoting capacity.

Well, 30k is meant to be deadlier than 40k, I think. Think Apoc on a smaller scale.

Except everyone is a marine. Because Marines never sale, ever.

I love chain fire, even in 30k/40k crossover games, I just love out dakkaing gatling cannons with pistols.

you can have xenos, you just play it as if its the Great Crusade, and maybe give a slight downwards adjustment to some of the points costs in you xeno dex.

Chain Fire is hilarious. A friend of mine was playing 30k at the local store, he managed to wipe out an entire squad of 20 some Guardsmen with it. I may have to make a Moritat for myself once I pick up my 30k stuff at games day.

It's not broken if you look at the model as a whole and the limits the model has... Between wh he can join, what he can actually do after this attack and his cost its balanced pretty well

Well I tell you straight, in future this unit is going to have so much fire focused on him he isn't going to be pulling that stunt. It was funny as hell and makes me want to make one too. It's probably the most "DAKKA" single unit I've ever seen!

Afterwards we had a bit of a play with some dice to see what happens, and one guy spectating managed 27 hits, with 22 wounds.... That's like killing a Hive Tyrant and a fully retinue of Tyrant Guard, in one round of shooting. Terminators need to run for the hills if this guy is running around.

No, it's not even close to broken. In fact it's a complete waste of points most of the time, you only take it because it's really cool. Sure, it can put up stupid numbers of wounds, but how many units actually have that many wounds? You're paying a lot of points to overkill most targets, and unless you pay even more points for a Land Raider and a mediocre unit to put the Moritat in you're talking about a single power armor model that will never survive to get into pistol range.

Which is ridiculously cheap....For the damage it can do, including against vehicles.

Yes, but 115 points just gets you a single power armored model that can't join most squads, so that 115 point glass cannon will be dead before it ever gets into pistol range. To successfully use the Moritat you need to buy a special squad that you probably wouldn't otherwise take (expensive) or a durable transport (expensive), and preferably both (really expensive).

I agree with peregrine. He is a fun but weak choice.

Whether or not he made his points back is irrelevant, clearly you did not know to shoot at him.

Not to mention at the 115 mark he also has 2 saves to take from gets hot vs 3+ armour... He only has 2 wounds. Give him artificer? Sure but he is more expensive

This man. I've faced horde marines from the HH book just once and it was pretty awesome.

TBH I don't see why my Orks wouldn't be able to play them... I mean its not like Orks have changed at all in the last fifty million years or whatever

I have played many a game 30k vs 40k and it works fine

What was their reasoning for FAQing away Presience on the Moritat? That was the only way to make him worth the investment to get him over to a target.

I guess fluff-wise it was the whole "always works alone" thing which was kind of contradicted by having a nearby psyker following him around everywhere and handing out blessings. Though TBH it was probably just to get rid of the "overpowered" ability.

Okay some people say he is a one Trick pony, but in my view so are many units and they all attract fire.

The key I think is getting him to the front. Sticking him in a Landraider seems like a reliable way to get him "Up Close and personal".

It's reliable all right. But it's a lot of points to spend on transporting just one guy! He's pretty cool and really fun to use, but so, so easy to neutralize. Even without actually killing him.

Fun choice though. Very John Woo.

Works great as a proxy Cypher in regular 40K too, although with just one plasma pistol and a bolt-pistol.

The problem with that plan is that deep strike scatter is extremely dangerous. If you land outside 12" (and you have a good chance of this happening unless you pick a really risky target point) your Moritat has to stand there and take a turn of fire before you can get into range and shoot anything, and if you didn't buy a squad to escort him it's almost guaranteed that he'll be dead before your next movement phase.

It's not that the Moritat is a bad unit, it's just not as scary as some people think it is. Once you get over the shock of OMG 999999999 PLASMA WOUNDS!!!!!! you realize that you're talking about an expensive unit with a habit of doing things like putting 50 plasma wounds on a 10-man tactical squad. It's a cool idea and you'll probably have fun using it, but it isn't going to break the game.

Yeah but in HH we have 20 Man Tactical Units, and 9 Missile carrying Dev Units, or 10 Man Flamer Units. So it becomes much more useful. Killing a 20 man Tactical Squad with an Apocathary is no easy task, but he cah slice through them like a hot knife through butter.

But I take your point he is a Glass Cannon, and needs protection.
