Well, I was looking through the (hilariously priced) Apoc formations and saw this:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1090004a&prodId=prod2090018a
Is it just me or did they try and get away with Photoshopping the colors to make the models "look" like they were Space Wolves?

I noticed that too! But I wouldn't exactly call it a fail, I'd say considering they probably couldn't get the Eavy Metal team to whip up 3 new paintjobs with a week or two's notice, they've actually done a really good job.
So much so on that left-hand one, in particular, that I had to compare it to the original side-by-side to be sure.
Of course, a look at the copy/paste units in the other formations is a lot more obvious, but understandable.

Idk if they photoshopped it but it does look bad there is just something off about the picture ,but on the other hand I was never a big fan of that colour scheme haha

I guess it depends on country - but I have reason to believe the cookie is automatic once you pick the country. If I'm right on that and you keep getting it come up, it'll be because you have cookies disabled.

Yeah that's a photo-shop fail. If they can charge me $150 for a toy they can pay their painting team to paint more models.

I suspect all the one-click bundles are just the work of a web monkey who was hired for his computer, not painting skills. Any boost in sales they generate is pretty much pure profit, as putting them together is just a few hours of work from the web team, rather then days of labor from the paining guys, and the cost of parts in models and paint.
Even pulling the minis from the showcase armies, and having a photographer do some nice, new, group shots raises the cost of the product. Which is why all these bundles are a collection of copy/paste pictures that are already in the system. Some, like the SW librarian of this thread looked to have gotten a a quick photoshop filter, but that's still within the skill set of a web-gobbo.
One thing to consider when talking about businesses, it that they are composed of people with different skill sets. The web guy can fill gaps in his schedule by doing stuff like this, he's not a sculptor/painter. So as much as we'd love to have the heavy metal team doing up unique new minis for these kind of things, I suspect they are busy painting stuff for the next codex coming out, etc.

Yeah, Nevelon's hit the nail on the head. Picture the scene.
You're on the web team. You're sitting there typing up some bumph to go onto brand-new unit X's page when in walks the boss, having just been handed a bombshell by the higher-ups.
"Guys", he says, "bad news. We have two weeks to put together about 100 pages for the Apocalypse stuff. Each one for the formations has got to have a picture of what it's made up of."
"But boss", you protest, "even raiding the Studio cabinets, we don't even *HAVE* that many models...!"
"Just copy and paste it in - we don't have any other choice."
...can anyone, assuming that you or your boss have no grounds to argue back with the higher-ups if you want to keep your jobs this time next year, come up with any better solution?

It seems GW cost cutting is so deep, they don't really have an Eavy Metal team that does the proper painting of their minis. That is why the minis in WD don't look so nice as they use to.

Meh. It's just stock photography. It doesn't misrepresent the actual models, so as far as I'm concerned there's nothing to get worked up about. Sure it's kinda lazy, but who really cares? Compared to, say, Hasbro's stock photography, which let me tell you is absolutely atrocious, this is nothing.

Imagine being one of the painters, you are doing your job, following your scheduled tasks, probably painting whatever it is you are supposed to take care of, life is good, BAM, you MUST complete an apocalypse sized regiment 'till the next morning. No excuses. They could have warned a lot of time before, probably, maybe Manager Bob had the task of warning the entire painting team about it since the beginning of the month. Of course manager Bob being the idiot he is completely forgot until a certain day because he had other more important tasks he had to take care of, like answering mails, or writing new complaints about the X team and telling everyone how those guys from the IT/web/whatever are idiots. *sigh* I swear all big companies are like this. *sigh* Thanks the God-Emprah tomorrow is Saturday, no need to offer my wrists as tribute to Khorne. I can live with the understanding that painting new models may not have been an option but spring for some overtime and it could have been done.
The poor planning is pointless to discuss now.
What is unforgivable is the really poor colour match.
I am sure there is enough stock photography that a well blended surface could be "sampled" from dark to light and then apply a fill to a defined area.
Was the artist given a half hour to make the layout?
I want to see what the ratio of managers to people that actually do the work is. I suspect a 6 to 1 ratio.

Yeah. Having just done a bunch of false color work with photoshop myself, it's pretty obvious, even without the side-by-side.
GW has a long history of poorly using photoshop. I especially like the old guard codex that has an imperial guard regiment shown in its entirety....
... a regiment that was painfully obviously a single squad of guardsmen copy/pasted a gagillion times.

Or just don't care. Frankly, once something leaves my paint bench, it bears only a vague relation to the pictures on the web. I just want to make sure I'm buying the right thing, not how they paint it. I'd rather have a generic paint job and pictures of the sprues and bits then multiple pics of the same mini in different color schemes. I will occasionally check for reference pictures, but after a certain point, people paint their own way and what GW does is irrelevant.
I will admit to having it easy. I play Ultramarines, so I get to see stuff in something vaguely like how I paint it. But I do look into the other chapter's sections for stuff I can loot for counts-as or to spiffy up my stuff. It's not that hard to look behind the paint at the metal/plastic/finecast beneath.

The complaining is because of the contrast when dealing with any other supplier of leisure goods.
I spend 1/10th of what I used to because of their poor model design, materials and sales practices.
The problem is we see the game we invested in possibly going belly up with the company since they look like they will kill their business.
I am investing in other games systems and thinking of selling off everything but my core army.
You do have the right idea however that when I play at a friends place or a FLGS I relax and roll some dice.
What is this "outside" thing you speak of?

Here's my laugh.
GW has stopped smaller guys from selling their product as bitz, because they claim "the factory packaging is part of the true GW experience, and represents the GW ideal as it is meant to reach the consumer as." But......... then they haphazardly photoshop the heck out of images that are meant to represent and sell their product.
Kind of a visual Freudian Slip when you take that into account, really.
