Hi guys,
I was just wondering what you all think the best point limit for apocalypse is.
The reason for this is that my mates have recently started it, and with the new releases, where do I start?
I terms of game length etc., we are looking for games that will last only a few hours, not the half a million point ones you see that last several days
Thanks

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive. Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

Well I would say any where between 3K and 6K is the average game of apocalypse, but I've only ever played one game mid-way through fifth ed.

Ergo, Hope is evil, and you should stop having it, but you can't have despair because then Nurgle gets a free ride. You could be angry about this, but that'd just get Khorne's jollies off. And heck you can't even get your own jollies off without Slaanesh giggling and farting out some daemons. And if you manage to avoid all that, some genestealers might infiltrate your planet and bring a hive fleet crashing down on you any way. |

There is none. It all depends on who's playing, what they're bringing, and how much time you want so spend on it. Did a full weekend get-together/game once that was a rocking good time with 100k to a side.

Thanks for your replies!
We'll proberly try 3k-6k, I'm thinking 4k so it'll be shortish (hopefully) and we'll get a good amount of units in.
Does anyone know approximately how long this will take?
Thanks

Depends on game length - they guy I am learning with has played a few apoc games and they seem to be about 7K per side for a 1-day game or twice that for one over a whole weekend

Depends on the number of superheavies and formations, seriously.
If you are having 10k per side you can easily play that in a day, so long as a large portion of that are tied up in expensive superheavies and formations. The reasons being are the 1) it reduces the number of models on the table that need to act in a turn and 2) their firepower will remove a lot of enemy models quickly.
Using the normal rules we've once finished 15k on 15k in a few hours just because of the amount of stuff superheavies shot off.
In general, if you're looking for Apoc game tips use the following. Have players bring their armies in increments of 1k with a general max of 3k per player. THis let's you adjust incase one player can only bring 1K, while another can bring 4k. Second, balance the Str.D weapons on each side. Imperial units get them for a discount compared to xenos and it's no fun getting shot off the board first turn.

I've found 5000 to be a nice number for Apocalypse. 5000 is about as many points as one person can reasonably handle without taking forever or going insane. My club also limits each player to 5000 pts when we play big 4 v. 4 or 5 v. 5 for that reason.
