I would have thought that blocking/ignoring someone would prevent them from messaging me.

Maybe it's to allow them to apologize/patch things up if stuff was said in the heat of the moment, instead of the user being forever ignored?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own... |

I guess that actually makes sense.
I would have thought that not blocking PMs would allow for abuse and harassment, but I guess that's what reporting is for.

They can message you because you don't have them blocked... the forum doesn't have such a feature. Putting someone on ignore just ignores their posts in a thread.
If you are receiving PMs from someone you would rather ignore, you can achieve the same effect by simply not opening them.

It's not always a bad thing. I have people blocked that I still don't mind getting PMs from. Just because the majority of what they say causes my blood pressure to rise doesn't mean that they can't have anything insightful to say ever.

Also, if you are getting inappropriate PMs (such as threats, harrassment, etc) simply report them to a moderator (copying and pasting the PM is usually helpful) and they will take appropriate action, if necessary.

I'd still appreciate such a function though aka being able to disallow certain users from sending you PMs.

Absolutely.
ALL of the rules of the site apply to PMs as well.

It's not a big deal, and not harassment at all. I just had a user blocked and was surprised when they PMed me. Didn't expect it.
Thanks for the answers,

In a relatively similar vein to this, would it be possible to get an option to only allow PMs from people you have listed as friends?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
