strange circumstance came up where I used a skyray and markerlight'ed (is that a word?) a daemon prince with wings who was swooping.
We played it such that it took a grounding check from the lasers in his eyes.
1) The question then came up: "If I used a markerlight to fire off a seeker missle from the same skyray - does it cause a second grounding check? Also does it count as bs 5 like the seeker missle rules with the markerlight or as bs 1 snap firing"
2) As an aside question - what if I used the markerlight to fire off a seeker missle from a different source say a broadside that just happens to be carrying one, does it now force a separate grounding check also (say I fired it from the 2nd markerlight hit) If my broad side doesn't have skyfire, is it still at BS 5?
3) Lastly, - if after those networked markerlights + seekers still failed to ground the FMC, can I still shoot additional missles from the skyray at its own BS/independently to try and force another grounding check?

1) The seeker missile is coming from a launch source with Skyfire, so full BS. It is handled as a normal shooting, so therefore grounding tests should happen if the hit is made.
2) if the Broadside has Skyfire then the missile comes at full BS. If not, I think BS 1, but an argument could be made the new Seeker specifically attacks at BS 5 when homing in on a markerlight.
3) the Networked Markerlight gets to fire first as an exception to the normal shooting rules. Everything else would be fired at the same time so you'd have to declare all your other shots before Firing the first Seeker. Also remember if your tank moved that turn you can only fire 2 weapons at the full ballistic skill (excepting the Seeker Missile homing in on the Markerlight as it is a specific exception).

1) YOu take a grounding test for each "hit" - so a ML certainly gives a grounding test. Does a seeker missile generate a "hit"? If so it triggers a grounding test
BS1 unless it specifies it has Skyfire
2) As above
3) No, as from memory the Skyray counts as firing the ML launched seeker, meaning you dont have a different unit firing the seeker, so no new grounding test.

ummm....Grounding says one or more hits from a units shooting attack. So no matter how many times one unit hits the FMC it only takes one grounding test.
for number 3, seekers fired using marker lights happen in addition to other weapons, so you don't fire, take grounding test, then fire again.
Essentially, you do the following, Fire Marker lights, fire any other weapons (seekers or other guns), roll wounds, roll saves, then FMC takes grounding test.
furthermore the seeker missile markerlight ability is not separate from firing other weapons. So on the aside if you finish firing with the skyray and then spend a light for another unit to fire at the FMC, that second unit would cause a second grounding test. Furthermore I would say no it does not fire at BS 5 because the Seeker ability does not state that it ignores snapfiring, like the increase BS ability does.

Considering that ML's were intentional removed from the list of thing that did NOT modify snapfire, I think the argument is in favour of them actually firing at the full bs of 5.
