So after seeing the new Tesseract Prison/Necron Obelisk (a model I absolutely love) I've been really inspired by the race and so started delving into advanced sciences and technologies to try and get some ideas and I came up with an idea (amongst many) for a melee weapon called a Graviton Flail.
Now I'm no expert on particle physics but the best I can understand is the a Graviton is a theoretical particle with 0 mass that mediates gravity at a molecular level (anyone more learned than I please feel free to clarify if I'm wrong). I know that there has been an actual Graviton Gun in 40k since it's creation and that the weapon affected the targets movement.
So if my understanding as to what a Graviton is what I'm thinking that the weapon literally rips it's targets apart molecule by molecule through the manipulation of said molecules gravitational pull. I also like the idea that any unsaved wounds caused by the weapon restrict the targets movement/initiative in some way. So does anyone have any ideas as far as a profile for this weapon?
Maybe an unwieldy weapon that ignores armor saves and when a target takes a wound they must pass a strength test or have their I/M reduced to 1?

There is a reason that I chose to go to law school. And that reason is because almost everything you said about particles and molecules went straight over my head.
However, there is already a weapon close to what you are describing. Necron Crypteks can take an Aeonstave, which causes an enemy model to lose fleet and have their WS, BS, I and A reduced to 1 if an unsaved wound is caused.

Seriously, all that science stuff is pointless when its a game of magic space elves, skeleton robots, planet eating bugs and daemons.
Apart from that I would still never take that weapon, because it is not a warscythe. Anything that isn't a warscythe is inherently a bad choice ...

Do you think there is any part of your post that's usefull. How about something more constructive than "it's not a warscythe so I wouldn't take it" Automatically Appended Next Post: G. Actually that is pretty close to what I was thinking, my Necron codex really needs to arrive

Such a weapon would be extremely impractical, but in game I would think that it would be unwieldy, concussive, fleshbane and AP 1. Prolly 5 points.

Makes it a perfect weapon for those who are masters of the impractical don't ya think?

Hm I like this actually good suggestion!
Also what if it had Fleshbane and Armorbane?

Not AP1. Warscythe already fills that niche. If it had fleshbane and armorbane it will definitely replace the warscythe. And all for 5 points? Are you joking? I think it should be more like a necron mace. Graviton Hammer: 15 points S+2 AP4 Concussive, Gravitational Shockwave Gravitational Shockwave: The Graviton Hammer can be used to warp gravitational fields around the bearer, crushing anyone in it's area of effect. Instead of attacking normally, the bearer of the Graviton Hammer may instead choose to release the Hammer's powers in a large burst of energy. Place the Large Blast template on the bearer. Any non-necron model under the template (it is assumed the necrons altered their necrodermis to resist the effects of gravitons) must pass a toughness test, or they will take a wound with no armor saves allowed. After resolving this special attack, roll a die for the bearer; on a 1 he also takes a wound; being so close to the device can damage even necrodermis!

This seems too much like the C'tan gaze of death and that costs 50 points.
Is this weapon for a specific unit or a upgrade for a lord?
The necrons already have the warscythe for anti-amour in close combat (though it cuts through everything else too)
Maybe just give it str 1 or x, but with fleshbane and rending as the graviton turns them inside out with the possibility that their armour cannot contain their insides
On this topic they should have a Tesla staff too. Each to hit of 6 adds 2 more hits, maybe as a cryptek weapon

I'm gonna stick with the weapon being a flail not a hammer.
How about this
Graviton Flail 15pts
AP3, +1A, unwieldy, concussive, fleshbane
(didn't add +2 strength because the weapon wounds on a 2+ anyway)
Gravitational Flux
Should the bearer of the Graviton Flail roll a 6 to wound the gravitational field projected by the weapon has become unsteady. Place the center of the large blast template over the bearer every model under the template (friend or foe) receives an automatic wound with no armor saves available ( fnp, reanimation protocols etc. work as normal).

Better. Why +1 attack though? And what happens if you roll more than one six?

This is actually a fluff based weapon for a Necron character I'm making.

+1 attack because as a flail like weapon it has multiple "tendrils" of energy striking out at the opponent. It seemed to make sense personally.
As far as multiple 6s I think it makes sense just to have Gravitational Flux take effect once per assault faze, hey what if any model that suffers a wound from Gravitational Flux can't attack for a full turn?

You can't just auto wound stuff without your opponent ragequiting or chucking a huge wobly.
Maybe suffers a str 3 or 4 hit like the c'tan gaze/
I have noticed if you base house rules off existing rules people accept them better.
The other option, though this may cause the effects mentioned above, wound be to give it the tesla rule and rending, or a variation that you find in some codexs where to hits of say 5+ are at AP 1 or 2.
If you want the +1 attack market it as a PAIR of graviton flails, so 2 ccw = +1 attack

That's why I suggested a toughness test; it gives a chance for the afflicted to survive, and it makes sense from a realism stand point.
