Even though Mother Nature did all she could to prevent it, AdeptiCon 2013 kicked off the second decade of our unending campaign to bring you the best wargaming convention possible! , Over 1900 attendees from across the globe descended on the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center to engage in conflicts across a myriad of worlds. Given the expanded Thursday schedule this year, did folks feel it was necessary to arrive (and thus reserve the hotel) on Wed night? Or maybe only if you were playing in the singles 40K GT?

I arrived on Wednesday this year, and will again next year. As it was, weather tried hard to keep me from arriving at all....

I got in on Wednesday this year and booked it the same way this year. The new format has made it so that it's a true 4 day weekend instead of 2.5 or so....

It also depends on where you are.

If you are flying in from the west coast because of the time change and the flight times you have to come in on Wed.

If you are on the east coast you might be able to come in on Thur.

Honestly, I don't think I can swing leaving on Wednesday... and if I do, I might just find someone to crash with. Last year, I couldn't swing Monday off of work, so I had to get up at like 4a.m. . So, this time I'm hoping to get Monday off and we'll see about Wednesday. Booked Thurs - Sun night for now

I ended up calling in the reservation, seems I could have made it on the website but I felt better talking to someone I guess

Edit: Blackmoor, that's my thinking, too... I'm on the east coast. And likely, I won't be playing in the 40k singles event, just the team tournament hopefully!

I just reserved my room. This will be my first adepticon and I'm very excited.

And I sort of already know the answer to this, but there is stuff that non gaming family members like my wife and daughter can do around the Westin yes? My cousin lives like an hour away but doesn't know much about that area. I guess there is always a trip into Chicago which could be fun.

Actually - I checked the block and there is space available. The link in Matthias' original post is working properly and I was able to start the booking of a reservation. Though I would not wait. The hotel block is filling at a good clip with 40+ rooms nights added over the past 2 hours.

Just a quick note:

The Westin hotel block is now 80% full in just over eight days of being released. If you want a room at the Westin, do not wait because they are going fast.

Preregistration Begins Thursday, November 14th at 7PM CST

We are busy putting the final touches on the schedule for AdeptiCon 2014 and it is shaping up to be another fantastic year!

It is impossible to cover everything in this update, so head on over to the AdeptiCon 2013 Webcart and see what events we have in store for you! The webcart is about 75% complete at this time. Please be aware that event days, event times, costs and descriptions are all subject to change. Several new events and seminars will be added before registration begins – but this should give you a good starting point to begin planning your weekend!

The full schedule should be completed by Friday, November 1st. In the meantime, we suggest you do the following in order to make your registration process go as smoothly as possible:

Make sure you whitelist the info@adepticon.org email address. All of your cart confirmations will be coming from this address and they can very easily get caught in spam/junk filters.

Log into the AdeptiCon Webcart to make sure you know what email address your account is under and what your password is. Trying to figure this out the day registration opens will be a nightmare. You can request a password reset by clicking here. Please note that if you use a different email address for PayPal, your webcart account might be under that email address. It just depends on how you registered last year.

Preregistration opens on Thursday, November 14th at 7PM CST. Last year, our most popular events sold out within hours, so act quickly to reserve your spot in the events of your choice!

I'll be driving this year, because f that noise from last year.

Interesting... I've considered driving, but feel like the extra time I'd need on either side might not be worth it. But it's a similar distance for me (living in MD) so... hmmm. Have you driven to it before, and is there anything to keep in mind about going that way? (I assume parking is free since there's a lot of space there)

AFAIK, most of the guys in this region end up driving, so you can usually find folks to caravan with from one of the various clubs (both inner circle, beltway, and IFL usually have guys going). I drove my first year, and flew last year. And while last year may be an anomaly, i got to the airport at 11am for a 12:30 flight, which got cancelled 4 times, changed airlines, rescheduled, and left finally at 1:30 am, having me arrive at 3:30 am to the hotel for a 7am singles GT start. That may not be the norm, but for me, its not even worth the risk - also, if I'm bringing a display board/team army, its a real pain to try and fly. The drive is about 11-12 hours depending on how much you stop, and is super easy. You spend about 300 miles holding the wheel straight and driving through endless flat in Ohio, and that's about it

Okay, maybe I'll see if any of the beltway gamers guys are going . I've already got rooming worked out with some Dakka mods, but not having to pack an army for flight would be appealing!

One other question- given the length of the drive, I'm guessing that means you drive Wednesday / Monday? When I was planning to fly in (and only do the team tournament, not the championships) I had only booked the hotel for Thurs - Sun... but obviously if driving Wed I'd have to add Wed onto that.

Looking forward to seeing those poll results and hearing what points and such we'll be playing at! This will be the first GT in a while I will get to play at instead of TO at, so I am even more juiced than normal for Adepticon.
