@Akira5665: At least the guys in the CBD shop are pretty nice. They've always helped me out with advice and whatnot, even though I infrequently purchase there.

I've been solving the problem by buying models from eBay - I paint very VERY slowly and so this has been working thus far. The other thing I'm doing it picking up Magic the Gathering; the cost to entry is comparatively nothing, and the 2014 decks come out on Friday (available at Ace Comics and probably other places too).

My experience with my local GW store is much the same. Hell I'd say one of the best things GW has going for it ATM are their hobby stores & redshirts. Pitty they are cutting back there as well.

Also: see my Deviant Art for more.

Agreed Sorcererbob - the Guys in the City store are indeed great. I have seen the occasional asshat work there - and it reflects when the store is mostly empty, most of the time. THAT particular store is crowded, often. I hope GW rewards staff for such a positive image - but I doubt it.

Just to show how we're on track for fixing problems such as this price disparity, this article from today covers a newly released report on IT price fixing in Australia.

Australian IT Pricing Inquiry Concludes High Games Prices Can’t be Justified
In response to the findings the Committee has put forward a variety of recommendations, including relaxing parallel import restrictions and amending the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) to “clarify and secure consumers’ rights to circumvent technological protection measures that control geographic market segmentation” to put the kybosh on geo-blocking.

If nothing else it should help spread awareness for how prolific it is and show there are ways to get around it.

We have had inquests into fuel price fixing in the past without avail... I don't mean to be pessimistic, but I suspect there is not much immediate change that the government can force upon anyone (and who would want them to?)
What I pray for is GW noticing the discrepancy and changing it... Perhaps the problem is that we keep buying their stuff? :p

So I could just be talking out of my bum but I feel like American and UK prices are better because GW is a UK company and it's easier and cheaper to ship to locations in the UK and the US and more expensive to ship to you guys down under? or it's what everyone else is saying and it's Corporate bumholes just overcharging just because they can.

Given we can ship it individually from the US to here and get it substantially cheaper than we can get it in the stores here, shipping is not a viable argument. Shipping in bulk would be much cheaper.
