I've only recently got back into 40k with the release of the new Eldar codex, so bear with me if there's a few inaccuracies.

As a fluffier than most player I'm really finding that all my psykers just to get any functionality out of them end up being super generic and always only taking the primaris of any discipline. I mean I see other powers that I'd like to take for the sake of fun, but knowing you won't get them just makes me feel as if there's no point in having anything but a primaris in the disciplines.

IDK but I just don't think I have a handle on being a fluffy player this edition. Especially in the power list meta around me. .

I think you might be selecting your powers incorrectly. You don't choose either a roll or the Primaris power, you roll, and if you don't like the power, you can swap it for the Primaris power.

There's no reason to not make the roll.

Yes, it's different to the old way of selecting psychic powers. But that's just how it's done this edition.

It just seems like when you are building a list there's no point in doing anything to get ready to use the other powers. Just pick the primaris and go on about your day without even taking the time to roll.

Last edition if I wanted to make a cool list based around dudes who used eldritch storm and a Farseer that likes killing people with mind war I could reliably build a list to capitalize on doing that. Win lose whatever, i had fun. Now you 100% build for primaris and forget you even have other powers.

You have a strange attitude to list building and Psychic powers. Not many people see it that way.

As a Tyranid player, I find this to be ridiculous. I build my army to use Biomancy, and roll on it. Granted, I do get 9 rolls on it across my army. If I don't roll powers I can use, I suck it up and play it the hard way.

Which is indeed what happened in my last game - 1500pts vs Eldar. My Zoanthropes rolled Iron Arms and Warp Speeds, my Flyrant rolled Life Leech and Hemmorage, my Tervigon rolled Life Leech, Warp Speed and Enfeeble. Basically very little to support my army. So I sucked it up, and got stuck in...

And won 6-0, only missing out on 9-0 because I didn't get a troop unit into my opponents deployment zone to grab his objective.

In another game, I hit the jackpot - Iron Arm and Endurance on both my Flyrant and Tervigon, as well as Enfeeble on the Tervigon. Enfeeble and Hemmorage on one Zoanthrope, Enfeeble and Endurance on the other. I ended up nearly drawing that game, despite having an army almost permanently in FNP and cover (because of my Venomthrope).

This game is fickle. Make your army, and roll on the chart. Be thankful your chart obviously has a beneficial Primaris. Biomancys Primaris is pretty terrible.

Well good on you for building around the biomancy table. I think honestly if I want to be able to take some sweet theme based builds I amm just gonna have to suck it up and cut all psykers out of any list.

At least that way I can build to a theme and be somewhat reliable. Not my kinda fun and it gets rid of some of my cooler models but at least I won't get stuck with useless units. So far this edition isn't bad it's just been super frustrating for a guy who loved psykers and eldar.

The problem is you're being a wee bit too specific in your theme for 6th edition. Instead of basing it around psykers who throw out Eldritch Storms, cut it at based around psykers.

As for reliability - cutting psykers isn't going to make your army more reliable, because GW have done their utmost to make sure armies are not reliable in 6th edition, because to them, this builds narrative. You're rolling for almost everything now. Taking out psychic powers completely because it's unreliable to get the power you want seems sort of contrary to the theme of 6th edition. Not to mention - psychic power are very powerful in 6th. Getting a bad set of powers for one game isn't going to kill you - think of it more as a challenge, which makes up for itself when the dice feel like giving you that awesome set.

In fact, you might be making your army inherintly less reliable, as a lot of Eldars psychic powers are about rerolling. Slightly unreliable psychic powers make Eldar more reliable.
